Joe Sakic, Brendan Shanahan, Mats Sundin, and Jeremy Roenick are all first-year eligible for the Hockey Hall of Fame. The induction announcement is happening Tuesday on TSN! (This is from TSN's Facebook page.)
If you could select only ONE of the above mentioned to be sent to the Hall this year, who would it be... and why?
Joe Sakic my first choice. Great player, hof first ballot. Stats especially that assist total is ridiculously great. As recognized as he is as a great player, I still say he is underrated. Maybe among top 12 centers in NHL history IMO.
Shanahan deserves hof as well as Sundin.
Roenick? Please! Nice player but should not sniff it.
Sakic. One of the most dominate players of his day, multiple championships, stand-up guy, great leader, clutch player, one of the most consistent players of all time. If he doesn't deserve it-nobody in the next 20 years does.
I'm thinking Shanny's new role as NHL enforcer may have had something to do with it. Enough voters were peeved that this suspension was too long, or that player didn't get suspended for a dirty hit, or whatever the case and gave other players their votes.
I thought Shanny was as big of a lock as Sakic was. Surprising for sure. I love guys like him, skilled with the ability to knock the stuffing out of you. I'm an old schooler, I like old time hockey players like him, Neely, etc.
