Doan's not going anywhere, folks. He's an old school team guy, who's been on the team since they were the Jets and stuck it out through some lean years in Phx. Now that the team is good, why wold he leave?
Regarding these lines...if we got Doan...
Sedin - Sedin - Booth
Burrows - Kes- Doan
Booth is the perfect guy to play with the twins, even if he's gotta go to his off wing. I wasn't among the masses calling for AV's head after the year, but if there is one failure he made (excluding the experimentation w/ sedin hurt) it is sticking to the Booth/Kesler combo. They are too similar offensively, and have no chemistry. They make each other worse.
Doan would be nasty on the Sedin line though...not gonna deny that. He's like Burrows, only bigger, tougher, better and not as mouthy/ as much of a headcase. Burrows is one of my favourite Canucks, but I'd hate him if he wore another jersey. Doan is one of my favourite players, period.
Doan is one of the most overrated players in the league. Yeah he's stuck with one franchise his entire career and he's probably a good captain, but people act as if he's a first liner which hes not
Yet you probably believe that every team would covet Mason Raymond because he's in so many Vancouver proposals.

Raymond would be good on a team without Van's offensive depth (which is why he's in these proposals). He played a lot on the 4th line last year, and he wasn't physical enough...he needs a top 6 role or at least a top 9/2nd pp role.
Anyone that calls Doan overrated should really hate Raymond though, I'll give you that. Doan is a beast.
Doan has averaged 55 points over the last 3 seasons. He has also under-performed in the playoffs. For a guy who is known as a "heart and soul" type of player, a captain to boot, he only has 28 points in 55 playoff games. The guy has also never been a PPG player in his career.
Pretty obvious your knowledge of this player begins and ends with his stat line on hockeydb.com.
Maybe there could be some small hope he'd like to try playing with a world class centerman and would come to Pittsburgh for a year or two before going home, if there is no hockey in PHX anymore. I'd like that. Mostly though I hope that the Yotes stay put, because it would be weird to see him play elsewhere. Loyalty is kinda my hockey kink.
Phoenix was closer to winning a cup than Pittsburgh, Detroit, Philly, Vancouver, Chicago, St Louis, or Boston. Literally every team on your list other than the Stanley Cup Champions.
And Jonathan Cheechoo scored 56 goals one season. The odds favor those teams FAR more than they do Phoenix.
That would be beyond awesome. Unfortunately, San Jose doesn't have the cap space to sign both unless we can unload Murray and Handzus on someone for picks. I think most sharks fans would be ecstatic to get even one of the two.
I've always dreamed of Doan in LA, but not sure after the WCF.
Honestly I do think that Vancouver has a good shot at him, and that would suck as I would hate to cheer against Doan. His style of play is one of my favorites to watch. I heard that he never swears on the ice, which is odd for some one who is in the mix as often as he is.
As for the poster who said LA and SJS don't have the cap space. I know for sure LA does, can't really speak to the sharks but I am sure if a player like Doan is out there you find away.

If we actually managed to land both, we would dump Clowe and Murray to the highest bidder. Cap space isn't an issue, it's actually signing the free agents that's the issue.

I think that if the Coyotes move then there's a good chance he'll come to Vancouver if he wants to win a cup before he retires. Of all teams out west, I think he'd go to either the Sharks, Canucks, or Kings.

I agree with that list, but could also see Nashville as a darkhorse.
Losing Doan, who has bled nothing but Coyote red all his career, would be bad enough; watching him go to the Kings would make it even worse. I don't think he'll consider the Kings considering recent events, though I wouldn't blame him if he chose to sign with the Stanley Cup favorite for next year.
(God forbid) If he doesn't resign with the Yotes, I think he'd consider San Jose and Colorado - if he chooses the latter, I'd certainly be rooting for Ray Bourque redux.
I think if the Yotes are out and the Kings are in and need a RW, they could do a deal for picks and prospects. That way it's a win win win for all three parties, both the teams and Doan himself. Doan gets a legit shot, Kings get a great playoff player and Phoenix gets more parts for the rebuild. And Doan doesn't have to play against his former beloved team.
There is a big problem with the premise of this thread. The Op stated that if Pheonix relocates would Doan stay. Well The problem is Pheonix can not relocated this offseason. The deadline for the ownership of the team to propose the move has passed. If you remember Winnipeg had to have assurances and the Board of goveners had to approve the relocatiion before the draft. SO the question is does Doan stay or go knowing that the team WILL BE IN Arizona for at least one more season?

He probably waits to see what July brings. He'll either sign a multi-year deal with one of the teams mentioned in this thread, or a one year deal with the Yotes.

I agree with the assessment, and would like to add that Doan would like to sign for more than 1 year, and since the deal hasn't been finalized, he won't sign until there is a certainty, and no reason to sign any time sooner...
I hope Lombardi is monitoring the Doan situation. Doan and Brown on the same team would be fun to watch; that is, after they get things straight.
As far as impact per dollar goes (goals, leadership, work ethic, physicality), I'd say he's the best available free agent if you're a team looking for that missing piece. He's a bit of a dirty and emotional player, but he'll give you 20 goals for $4-5M and knock a bunch of people out. Contrast that with Parise who'll give you 35 for $7-8 over a much longer term and it's not too hard to see the benefits of the alternative.
It's a shame he's not getting any attention. Didn't even make TFP's top 30 free agents.
Coming from a Coyotes fan, I'd say he goes to either Anaheim, L.A., Vancouver, San Jose, or maybe even Colorado. I think he stays as far west as possible. I think he's looking for a 4 year deal followed by retirement. I'm praying he comes back though, this ownership **** reallt ****s with the true fans in Arizona. There may not be 18,000 of us to fill the seats but there are plenty of us outside of the area of the arena. It's unfair to lose people on these circumstances. I wish they would stop ****ing with us and either move the team or sell it and keep it here already. This uncertainty is ********.
He would be ideal for San Jose, that team needs a culture change bad and Doan is like the opposite of Marleau, he's all heart and agressivity. And put him with better wingers and it could be a points rebirth for him. This is really the guy they need.
