Shanahan and the Hall of Fame

Just wow!

Way better career than both Oates and Bure!

Yeah, it sucks, but i am glad Bure got in. Could have seen him as a bubble guy for a long time, even though he was clearly one of the most talented players during his time.

I have no problem with Bure...I think that one was overdue, I think Shanny deserved it over Sundin though.

Less of a problem with Bure. People forget just how dominant the Russian Rocket was. Only 40 we missed a lot of good years because of injury.

Think Shanahan should have gotten in over Oates this year.

My biggest gripe is actually probably Sundin. If you are only going to do 2 first ballot guys, I think Shanny and his three cups easily beat Sundin, but hey the event and hall are in Toronto I guess.

I have a hard time getting mad because he will get in one year or the other.

I'll be happy for Sundin and Bure instead. I think it's hard to explain how much Sundin meant for Swedish hockey and the National team.

As is the case with most Hall of Fame candidates Shanahan is an important member of the first Canada Gold in more than 50 years at the Olympics. He played a vital role even as a player in the post-lock out hockey that helped redefine the NHL.

I am happy for all four guys, just confused why a guy I consider and a lot of other people around the game considered an absolute lock first ballot guy had this happen.

In terms of on-ice careers, Sundin in and Shanahan out is indefensible. There is not case to be made that can justify that. None.

Eh, this one was tough, 5 guys, 4 spots. I can see an argument for Shanny over Sundin, but it's pretty close. Maybe an argument for Shanny over Oates too, but Oates was overdue and Shanny will get in soon anyway. Despite Bure's shortened career, the guy was just so damn dominant, and like Oates, overdue.

Shanahan will probably get in easily next year. Who will be 1st-balloters in 2013?

If Shanny just had numbers and no Cups, I can understand him waiting a few years. Dino took a while to get in with his numbers but no championships.

Shanny seriously needs to cut a wrestling promo in suspension video calling out the voters...that's all I'm saying.

Chelios...and maybe Scott Niedermayer. Chelios is a no-brainer...maybe Shanny goes in with him. I think Lindros should get in also if Bure got in.

You also have to think at some point the Pat Burns media campaign is going to pay off. He deserves to be in as well, but that effort is really getting ratcheted up the last couple years.

Rob Blake should also be eligible soon right?

He'll get in next year. I'd have put him in over Oates or Sundin this year but its whatever.
Just glad Bure got in.

Maybe he can Shanaban the HHOF voters. I'm not all that surprised, though, since this is a pretty good class.

Now, if they pass over Nick on the first ballot...

He'll get in sooner or later. To be made he didn't do so on the first available ballot? C'mon...

About damn time for Bure, though, that's all I can say. Now I have nothing to complain about every year.

With Bure in, Lindros' case just got a big shot in the arm in my opinion.

That's what I thought earlier, too. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes considering the noise he made.

Shanny was better than Sundin.

Moreover, Shanny was a winner. Sundin? not so much.

Agreed.

IMO, Shanny belongs in over Bure, too, and I am a big Bure fan.
Shanahan definitely belongs in over Oates, while we're at it.

3 Cups. 650+ goals. 1300+ points. Could fight anyone. Olympic Gold. The guy generally credited as being the final piece of the puzzle that KICKSTARTED the Red Wings era winning cups.

Sakic is the only guy who belongs above Shanny in this year's class. And even that is debatable.

Also a member of the triple gold club having won a World Championship. Has a Canada Cup from the early 90's. Best I can tell the only thing he didn't win was a World Junior Championship and that could be wrong would have to look that up to make sure.

He would have won the gold medal in the World Juniors but Canada and Russia were disqualified for their famous brawl

It's puzzling that Shanny didn't get the nod this year. He has to be a shoo-in next year.

I was pretty skeptical he would make it and was not shocked at all he didnt make the cut. With that said, he will make it eventually.
