Why of course? He's gonna get a big pay day and for term. He hasn't proven much. No need to commit to more of these types of players.

Are you gonna come back and admit you were wrong after it happens? The only way he gets a dime under 5 mil is if he takes a home town discount with NYI, something like 4 years 19.5 mil. I expect him to get a 5 yaer deal with 26-27 mil as a UFA.

Blake Comeau could be a bargain. His on-ice shooting % took a dive this season, but he's still a solid player, his production should bounce back.

To fill the 4th center job, Gilbert Brule could do the job, if the price is right. He never panned out as a scorer, but he works hard and makes responsible decisions.

I think an avatar bet is in order. I can be witness.

53 points and 67 points. Playing with John Tavares. 29 years old.

Other stints in the NHL:

2009-10 with NYR: 22 GP, 3G 5A
2006-07 with Chicago: 5 GP, 0G 1A

Besides that, he was always in the AHL. To me, he doesn't deserve $5M+ AT ALL (even though that's probably what he's going to get).

... and I guess playing along side Ovechkin and Backstrom doesn't inflate his stats the way Tavares does with PAP...
I don't find Semin to be a floater. He isn't Dustin Brown or Zach Parise but he will give you an honest day's work. I think part of his drop in production is a change in philosophy in Washington plus playing behind Ovechkin who takes long minutes and gets better linemates.

Semin's two "horrible" years add up to 142 GP 49-59-108 0.76 PPGM, and he has proven he acn do better. as in a 40 goal season and 73, 79 and 84 point seasons.

Semin usually plays 2nd line, not with Ovechkin and Backstrom, at least taht was the case this year watching the Caps.

Are we really arguing over whether Semin is a better player than Parenteau?

Ok.

The last guy I want is Parenteau, unless he comes with a bill of 3.8M; which won't happen.

I'd rather pay Parise for 10+ years at max salary then Parenteau over 4M a year.

This should end up the PAP talk. He is going to be this years Leino. I really hope Montreal doesn't waste money on him.

I'll do you one better. I'll bet you all my vcash that he doesn't.
More than happy to add a side avatar bet as well. Deal?
Overlords, do you want in as well?

No, I'm content with watching. I don't think Parenteau is worth it, and I'd like to think most GM's agree. On the other hand, I cannot underestimate the stupidity of certain GM's out there, either.

Phoenix GM Don Maloney says Shane Doan will test free agent market. Potential teams will get good leader and officiating conspiracy buff

Doan would be agreat fit in Montreal...and considering Price is his cousin...

Is that a legit source? Pretty sure Doan said he is going to play for Phoenix until he retires.

No chance in hell after what happened back in 2010 with that french referee... The french media would burn the city down if he signed here.

I'd take him in a heartbeat though. He'd be absolutely perfect for our team.

Fair enough. I'm more optimistic that no GM is THAT retarded.

Perhaps I'm just old and cynical.

Id rather have Doan than any of the current UFAs not named Parise.

I had suggest Doan in another thread.

I wonder if he could play LW or Gionta.

Doan/Pacioretty-Desharnais-Cole
Pacioretty/Doan-Plekanec-Gionta
Bourque-Eller-Moen

Penner could also be had cheap for 2nd/3rd line role. (1 year contract)
Hudler too. (could help on shootout)

Parenteau has some impressive numbers but I worry about signing him...Based on his career thus far it raises a lot of red flags for me... I just can't see anything but disappointment with him if he gets a big paycheck... Similar to Jason Blake. He also doesn't really address anything we need at the moment. If somehow he gets a 3 year deal at around $3.5m I wouldn't mind replacing Bourque with him though.

That would be a huge, huge mistake then. You could get Doan for $5m and he is leaps and bounds more useful.
