"DOAN" Deal?

If Phoenix can't retain him..might be a better option than Jagr...thoughts? He rarely misses games and plays all out....

Quote:
Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan could be wearing a different jersey next season.

The veteran forward is expected to test the free agent market on July 1, according to Coyotes general manager Don Maloney.

Speaking on NHL Live radio Tuesday afternoon to discuss the situation, Maloney said that the team is optimistic a deal can still get done to retain Doan despite ownership issues.

Absolutely, would help us offensively and defensively. Would be a tremendous 2nd line forward and would help us slot out better over all the times...

Hartell - G - Voracek
Doan - Briere - Schenn
Simmonds - Couturier - Read
Wellwood - McClement - Talbot

... would be pretty nice.

I'd love it, by why not with Jagr?

Harts-G-Jagr
Doan-Briere-Jake
Simmonds-Schenn-Read
Wellwood-Coots-Talbot

i'd give him a 3 year deal, he hasn't shown any signs of slowing down offensively and even if he does, he's good enough defensively to slot down in the 3rd and 4th line. plus he won't break the bank.

I would probably take Doan over Jagr, but I'm not a fan of re-signing Jagr at all. But re: the link we had a few days ago about PA Parenteau as an option if Parise/Ryan fall through...Doan >>> Parenteau.

Sucks at defense, slower, and is in the process of applying for his AARP card.

Some of the comments by the TSN posters mention he doesn't want to move the family too far and mention Edmonton, Calg and Vancouver as the most likely destinations but not sure how accurate those presumptions are. Nonetheless, Doan would be a perfect fit here....we need his size, leadership and durability not to mention he's good for at least 50 points. Flyers should def pursue but as they note the list of potential suitors will be long...

Doan would be perfect for this offense. Size, Grit, experience, heart. Another guy that wants to win a cup so bad. An he's still got it. Id take him on a 1-3 year deal.

He won't be cheap. Probably $5mil+. He apparently wants a 4 year deal - which makes sense - but having a 40 year old Shane Doan with a ~$5.5mil cap-hit isn't necessarily ideal...

I think he stays in Phoenix regardless of ownership situation. It's too weird thinking about Phoenix without Shane Doan.

I'd love to have him in Philly but he's not going to come cheap on a 35+ contract.

The 35+ contract and the length he wants scares me slightly, but I'd love it if we signed him.

Doan would be a great addition in theory, but another 35+ contract at a significant cap hit is a risk that makes me uncomfortable. I know he's been durable, but so was Pronger. Guys get older, their bodies age, they get hurt. That's typically how it happens.

Doan is coming off a contract with a cap hit of $4.55 million. I wonder what he'll seek (and see) on the open market, but I don't think I'd offer him more than a similar figure. Shane Doan on, say, a 2-year, $8-9 million deal? Yeah, I think I could live with that.

Hopefully they will get rid of the 35+ rule. They probably wont but it sure would be nice

They easily could if they just put in more strict rules about longterm contracts, which I expect they'll do anyways.

If they do it will probably make it so that the amount of money from one year to another cant change by more than a certain percentage. So it could be a double edged sword since it could likely negate our ability to front-load a contract for free agents.

Because we'd like to see Couturier in the top 9.

Would love Doan, especially on brieres line with his lack of D, but I still don't see him leaving the coyotes

I came up with the idea of pursuing Doan like 3 days ago.

I would be all for Doan coming to the flyers. I love his all-around game and he seems like the type of guy that would be a great locker room presense, although I do not know this for certain. The length and dollars of his deal would have to make sense for the flyers tho. I wouldnt do it at 4-5+ mil a season and/or for 4+ years. It kinda reminds me of when the flyers got Ian Lapiererre, although doan is a better player than ian, especially offensively.

I've always liked Doan, but part of me wanted to see him be with the same team/franchise for his entire career which is really rare (or at least back to the Jets so he'll play for Jets-Yotes-Jets).

If we could get him for a good price, his qualities would be of great value to a younger team.
