Well he could have left it alone, put the 5 or 6 top six guys on the PP and leave it and stop giving Boyle PP time over guys like Hagelin and Kreider in the playoffs. I agree a guy like Doan will let Torts balance out the lines more and i also agree if we don't sign Doan, get someone else like a Sykora type or Semin like you said, no need to go crazy with trades, we aren't the Sharks.
I think he will give those guys PP time this coming year (Hags and Kreider). Kreider was brand new, so that was no surprise that he didn't see much PP time. As for Hags, he just wasn't the same after the Alfie hit.

I hope he gives them PP time because if not then we should just hire a PP coach to create the lines and strategy for the PP. Why do we have 1-2 guys in the back of the net on our PP and we never screen anybody? Then when we do screen we win the game in OT with a shot from Staal.
Question for you guys. I know that teams were able to start talking to Schultz on Monday, and he can't be signed until July 1st. Is that true for all UFAs? Or is this a special condition?
so if we bring in Doan and Whitney (who maybe will cost less than Nash combined or at least close to it) and they bring in 50 pts 20 goals each. How does that not help us? We get 100 pts and 40 goals added to last years team
You don't get to add 40 goals and 100 points to last year's team because they are taking the place of two top 6 forwards. Let's for the sake of argument say you are replacing Hags and AA and lets overlook that Hags didn't play a full season. You are getting 10 more goals and 16 more assists and paying $7MM more dollars for that privilege. Not a wise investment in my book

Only Schultz. It's like that because he became a UFA earlier. Everyone else is still property of the team they played for last year.

Hags and AA would both be on the 3rd line so ur not replacing them. Just moving them down, so anything u get from Doan and Whitney, is added to the talent last year. Therefore more goals
I'm a little leery of Doan. If he isn't willing to sign a 1 year deal, I think I'd lose quite a bit of interest. He's a good fit up front, but I'm not willing to get into a 35+ debacle if he comes in and puts up 35 points in the first year of his deal.
$60M is a decent drop from $64.3M. Two good players.
Would their not be a % roll back in cap hits to account for that and grandfather in existing contract? Teams that would be over the cap cannot just trade away players if enough teams that are far enough under the cap can't add that sizable salary atm.

Nope. Parros is a similar player to Rupp for sure. He is a "good" player for an enforcer type but he still has hands of stone most of the time.
Tootoo is hard to gauge, he takes terrible penalties like Hollweg used to but he also put up 30 points this past year. Hollweg would NEVER have done that. He plays on the line and he is like a heat-seeking missile when he is on the ice.
I would be in favor of Burish + Moen and running with that. Move Boyle to 3c or 3rd line LW (which is where I think he belongs moreso than center).
Burish is a good PKer and a good face-off guy too. Not sure what the price-tag would be.
I was an advocate of signing Kenopka before Prust came out and said he'll be testing free agency. Signing Kenopka for the 4th line to take faceoffs and get some PK time would be ideal. He can also drop them when need be.
I have a sneaking suspicion that a kid within the system is going to come in and win a 3rd line winger spot. Miller and Thomas are both possibilities, IMO. I think Feds will be brought back cheaply as a 13th forward.
Konopka had a good year on the Island before last year. He only played 50+ games this year in Ottawa so I am not sure if he is truly a 4th line player but he would be a solid depth addition.

I think Konopka is without a doubt a 4th line player (unless you are referring to him possibly being a 3rd liner). Look at what his face off abilities did to us in that series? I think he was a game changer for the Senators. I don't think Ive ever seen a 4th line player have that much of an impact since Ryan Hollweg (even though his was negative) took that stupid penalty against Pittsburgh when we were up 3-0 in game 1 a few years ago.

From what I remember reading about Thomas, he's not ready. Miller I would say has a better chance since he is more of a complete player than Thomas.

Yeah, I sometimes think he would be a good addition just for his aggressive play. I mean, look at the way Neil changed the series for Tootoo. That would be, hopefully, the type of player Tootoo can be.
