Holy overreactions. The Avs are paying him 2 million a year to be a bottom pairing defenseman. He played very well for a majority of last season.

Awful. I wanted Wilson back and MAYBE one of Hunwick+O'Brien back. Sherman is now completely depending on our youngsters improving. Hes not showing the initiative he showed last year to improve through risky but intelligent moves. We need quality Sherman, the 3.6 million to O'Brien+Hunwick can go towards an offer for Garrison.

SOB is a fine bottom pairing defenceman, but $2M is a little steep for a bottom pairing defenceman, and 3 years is a lot for a bottom pairing defenceman. Not a terrible signing, but either lower cap hit or shorter term would be needed for it to really make sense.

Garrison isn't as good as everyone seems to think. He'll get overpaid come FA. If Colorado could sign him at a nice price, sure, but he's cashing in on a career year.

Rather than try for Garrison, I'd inquire about Campbell in Florida and have him setting Johnson up for sweet one-timers.

The average NHL hockey player (1/20th) of the salary cap is about 3 million dollars. Therefore 2 million to be a bottom pairing guy is really basically nothing.

I will agree that the term is 1 year too much though.

Yep sherman is an idiot, once every rfa on the team is signed, they'll have a 22 man roster with 16M in cap space left to add a parise, doan, whitney/suter, carle ufa.

What a moron.

Is $2 million enough to transplant The Roxy to Denver?

He sucked when we had to rely on him so heavily and he felt the need to play above his skill level. When he is back as the bottom rung guy(hopefully) he will look better doing nothing but face washing players after the whistle and roughing up teams weaker players, I think.

And at 2 million cap hit it isn't a huge deal if he ends up as a 7th defensemen.

That sound you heard is a nightclub owner popping a champagne cork somewhere in Denver.

But seriously, Obie's decent for a 3rd pairing guy. Contract's about a year too long and half a mil per too much imho, though.

Shane O'Brien had 20 points last year and wasn't bad defensively. His only problem is he tries to too much. He's a perfectly good 5/6 dman.

I think he is referencing my post where I said SOB is the worst defenseman in the league and saying that if SOB was in fact the worst defenseman in the league than Lilja, Lebda and Scott would be having a party because they wouldn't be the worst defenseman in the league. So obviously he thinks that Lilja, Lebda and Scott are the worst defenseman in the league and not SOB.

This is a pretty funny thread. I did enjoy his 1 year stint with the Preds. I couldn't imagine giving him a 3 year deal though.

Perfectly good eh? He's an ok 5/6 dman. I can't believe he just scored $2mil per year. Good for him though. That's a lot of alcohol.

He played an average of 19 minutes on a pretty decent defensive team in 2012. $6 million over three years is economical, especially considering the $6.25 Colorado paid an inferior Kyle Quincey the prior two seasons.

Not much money, but he's not a particularly good dman. He's a fine 6/7 guy who provides some toughness, but not particularly good for too much else. He's basically a slightly poor man's Komisarek, but paid a more reasonable salary.

Shane O'Brien is an NHL calibre defenceman, an all around team guy, and a party animal to boot. There's nothing wrong with that last part; he's a hockey player for God's sake, what do you expect? He sticks up for his teammates and is the kind of guy players like having on their team.

Good for Colorado.

Is 2 million out of a 70 million cap supposed to be a lot?

Wait, SOB got a 3 year/$2 mill per deal?

A bit of overpayment for a bottom pairing defenceman who fails miserably whenever he does anything other than be a bottom pairing defenceman.
