Calgary Flames 2012 Prospect Rankings - #1

Well, now that the draft is over and development camp is right around the corner, I figure we should discuss our overall prospect pool a little more in depth. It should be interesting with plenty of risers, fallers, some new additions, and some prospects lost in trades and to graduation.

Here are last year's HF Flames rankings:

Quote:
1. Baertschi
2. Brodie
3. Nemisz
4. Irving
5. Howse
6. Reinhart
7. Byron
8. Wahl
9. Ortio
10. Negrin
11. Horak
12. Granlund
13. Holland
14. Ramage
15. Breen
16. Bouma
17. Gaudreau
18. Wotherspoon
19. Leach
20. Ferland
Should be a pretty different list this year. Currently, in determining whether or not a player is a prospect, I am going by what the NHL considers to be a rookie (<25 games played). We can change that if people disagree.

Lost to Graduation: Brodie, Horak, Bouma, Byron
Lost in Trades: Holland, Leach
Did Not Sign: Leach

Also, suggest a player you would like to see added onto the list.

Sven Baertschi, no one else is close at this point.

Add Granlund.

We all know who's #1 but I gotta say that I hope that Gaudreau is #2. His accomplishmentss of last season are incredible and he was a rookie in college.

Would Brodie count as a graduate? Seems like he's going to be with the Flames permanently now.

Edit: Serves me right for not reading all of the OP. Ignore this.

I think the criteria for a prospect should be a player with less than 65 games played, which I believe is what HF use's as well. Not a huge deal, but I think that is what the majority of team's use as a benchmark around here.

For example, there is is a large possibility that we see both Horak and Bouma down with the Heat at times next season.

Anyways..clearly Baertschi here.

Add Granlund.

I agree, we should use the HF terms of what a prospect is. Plus, if we use harder criteria it's just easier for everyone to say we have no prospects, haha.

Flames don't have any prospects. Lock thread.

Jk, it's obviously Baertschi.

In pure skill only Gaudreau is pretty close to Sven imo, but his size is a huge question mark so I picked the safer one.

Fair enough. I think Nugent-Hopkins was still the 'top prospect' at the end of the year just because of the time he missed this season. I'll add Brodie, Horak, and Byron. It'll certainly make things more interesting.

To me it's a close race between Irving and Baertschi, but it's hard to compare the two because of their position difference. Since Baertschi has an overwhelming majority, I chose Irving.

No question it has to be "the Sven".
