Who is this Oullet guy though? I know stats don't tell the whole story but how does a 30 year old score 116 points in 190 career NHL games and still play in the AHL?
Oullet was Michel Therrien's pet. He got all those points because MT gifted him loads of icetime with Malkin and the "trigger" spot on the #1 powerplay unit opposite Crosby and Malkin.

As far as why he's in the A, without an advocate like Therrien giving him chances other, better guys never ever see, that's where he belongs. He's an undersized, lackluster skater with an underwhelming shot and little toughness. He does have nice touch around the net. He just doesn't have anything else.

Suprised Boston let him go...
Must have a plan to sign a UFA replacement.

Damn, I was really hoping Tampa would draft Griffith, he and Namestnikov already have chemistry and would have made a killer line here too.

Ha! Some fans have an IQ much lower than Pouliot's hockey IQ.

He is not able to hold Pouliot's jock.

Pouliot is who he is. People dislike him because their teams made a mistake. You see this in there comments. I watched him as a Hab and was glad Boston signed for what they did.

The mistake is not Pouliot's.

If your coach is not able to place him in the right line combination then how good is your coach?

if boston wasn't going to qualify him, then why waste a 5th on him when you couldve gotten him for free after july 1st?

unless tb thinks there will be other suitors for him, so trade for him now and qualify him

Ding, ding, ding.

Signing Pouliot as an unrestricted free agent was a far less certain, possibly more expensive option. The 5th (and a qualifying offer) buys the Lightning his exclusive negotiating rights. I believe Pouliot has arbitration rights but I could be mistaken and I doubt there would be a hearing even if he filed .

I though Pouliot was great in Boston. Filled his role on the third line more than adequately. That being said, it was nice to get something for him as it was looking like there wasn't going to be a spot for him in Boston next year. I thought Griffith was the best value pick the Bruins made as well.

Why trade for him if you're not going to qualify him?

Eliminates arbitration. Both Yzerman and the Pouliot's agent have been quoted they're confident a deal gets done.

Because they don't want to pay him 1.1M which is what the offer would have been is my assumption.

Both Pouliot and Yzerman have said they are going to get a deal done.

To quote Lightning beat writer Damian Cristodero:
Quote:
Not qualifying Pouliot may see odd since the Lightning acquired him from the Bruins on Saturday for minor-leaguer Michel Ouellet and a fifth-round draft pick, and that the plan seems to give Pouliot a chance to play as a top-six forward. But by not giving him an offer, Pouliot cannot invoke his arbitration rights. (...)

Tampa Bay is confident it will sign Pouliot, and Hughes (his agent) has the same view.

"I'm confident," Hughes said. "We think Tampa is a good fit, a good situation for Ben, a good opportunity at this stage in his career. He made real strides last year and would have been more than comfortable returning to Boston. Boston's got issues that they had to resolve in terms of numbers and cap money, so couldn't think of a better landing spot than Tampa."

As with the Lindback trade, Its crystal clear that this trade was done toward a bigger Luongo trade

I think Pouliot goes to arbitration, likley doubles his salary + from last season.
@-2.5 mil per likley.

He can't go to arbitration. He wasn't given a QO.

Or they want a spot for one of their prospects and they think Jordan Caron is already better than Pouliot. I think a lot of Bruins fans would argue that Caron is not better than Pouliot, but I am not one of them. I think Caron playing full time will make them a better team than having Pouliot on the 3rd line.

I don't think that means an UFA signing is out of the question, just that Caron has made Pouliot expendable and they were going to move on without him any way you look at it.

I'd agree with you. Caron really turned it on at the end of the season.

Kinda funny that the pick we traded was used for Seth Griffith, who Tampa Bay had in prospect camp last year.

So is Boston going to make any moves? Or just move Peverley to center and Kelly to LW?

Lucic-Krejci-Horton
Marchand-Bergeron-Seguin
Kelly-Peverley-Knight

?

Kelly would play center. Peverley can play any position, so either he'd play 3rd line LW, or swap Knight and Pev's positions.

The only move that would make a little sense would be moving Krejci, and possibly another player in a trade for a top line forward. Can't see that happening, anyway.

Lucic-Seguin-X
Marchand-Bergeron-Horton

I think there's a list of guys that Chiarelli wants, probably with the likes of Doan, Whitney, maybe Dustin Penner because of his size. But since he likes young guys like Caron & Knight, he won't make outrageous bids for them and is prepared to come up empty in the crazy UFA market and Caron will be the 3rd line LW.

But since Horton is such a ? with his health now, I'd be surprised if Chia came up completely empty. He should at least walk away with a reclamation project like Brad Boyes and a cheaper 7th D who could possibly work the PP like Gragnani.

Wouldn't be shocked to see him make a huge push for Doan, but everything I hear makes it seem like Boston's not Doan's kind of place.
