2012 Panthers Prospect Poll #5

#1 Jonathan Huberdeau (C) - 94.23%
#2 Jacob Markstrom (G) - 81.63%
#3 Nick Bjugstad (C) - 80.85%
#4 Quinton Howden (LW) - 66.67%

I added Knight.

I know I am moving quickly here. I will slow it down once we get some actual close races. It should get a little more interesting here. I know Petrovic will get a lot of votes, but I'm going Rocco. I see our future top line being Huberdeau - Bjugstad - Grimaldi. He's got the most scoring upside out of all our prospects other than Hubs.

I don't see why Grimaldi gets so much hype from you guys. He may be feisty, but he's sorely undersized and had a big injury hold him back last season. Perhaps when he actually puts up numbers next season in the NCAA, and I don't necessarily doubt he can do it, then I'll be a believer.

In any case, I picked Robak. He's steadily and slowly and quietly coming along to look like a top-4 defenseman. He made the AHL all-star team this season, so that should count for something.

Rocco's a good player. Three layers stood out to me last season at rookie camp, Bjugstad (size and ability), Huberdeau (obvious), and Rocco. His size didn't limit him at all against players much bigger than him. I realize it's rookie camp, but it was impresive.

Drew Shore. Size, skill, two way player, who has improved every year. He played well in his short stint in the A and will continue to impress. He is going to be a nice second line center.

Rocco gets too much love right now. I agree with the poster above (clint)

To be fair, he also has one of the highest chances of busting too.

If Rocco Grimaldi wins I demand instant runoff voting. The election is rigged, I say!

Rocco has a ton of skill. Great player who I'm thrilled we've picked. I've seen him. Have you seen Drew Shore?

Rocco is coming off major knee surgery and he's got a high chance of busting due to his miniscule size. Drew Shore should be a #2 center who could max out at 20-25 goals, 50-60 points, while playing a good two way game. Or a third line center. Rocco will either be a top line player who puts up great offensive numbers or more likely never be that NHL scoring threat he has to be.

Yes, and so is Markstrom but no one is too worried.

Markstrom and Rocco are not comparable. Markstrom has a much higher chance of making it and his knee injury is nowhere as severe as Rocco's.

I went with Petro. And I'm pretty sure we'll see this kid at some point during this season.

I'm going with Petrovic, he was the WHL defender of the year. I think that counts for a lot and am hoping to see him do well in the AHL this year.

I think Rocco's injury does have a factor on his ranking, as when we drafted him he was already a big risk and a boom or bust type player. Having lost a year due to injury only amplifies that in my opinion. Not saying he isn't still a good prospect just that I don't rank him above Petrovic or Shore.

Petrovic, add Kosov.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if Grimaldi has a big year for UND, if he can stay healthy. He was electric in the few games he played. And that was on the 3rd line. But for right now, I have him 8th.

Petrovic.

I'm not very high on Grimaldi either. Not sure if he'd even crack my top10 at this point. Was never high on him coming into the draft, and it has nothing to do with his injury.

You have him behind Robak and Shore?? I just loved him at camp, but I understand the concerns.

I don't even think the knee injury is a major concern. He could have come back at the end of the season if he had gotten surgery right away, but he decided he'd try to rehab it without surgery first. But that failed and so he needed to get the surgery, that's why he was out all year. I think 70/30 he's gonna have a big year, and it would be awesome if he played on Knight's line.

Grimaldi's upside might be a little higher, but for me Shore has better size and an all-around game obviously. Plus he's more proven. Robak, again, has better size and is more projectable. It's really nothing against Grimaldi though, it's a sign of how stacked our pipeline is. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Rocco in the top 5 in these rankings next year.

Live? Nope. I also haven't seen Huberdeau, Markstrom, Bjugstad, or actually any of our prospects live. Guess that means I can't have an opinion on them, so I'll see myself out.

IMO Drew Shore is probably the most underrated prospect in the organization and has been for a few seasons now. His college stats aren't that far behind Bjugstad's. Having both of them gives us two great options at center in a few seasons.

I give the edge to Shore for this spot with Petrovic going next.

I'm going with Petro only because we haven't really seen Rocky for any lengthy period.

I said in the Howden thread and I say it again. Drew shore is criminally underrated around here. People discuss how Petro has been one of best OHL defenseman, yet everyone seems to ignore how Shore has been one of the best collegiate players each of the last two seasons. The kid has proven more against better competition. I think he (and robak) have to be ahead of Petro simply because they are more developed and have shown no sign of slowing down. Shore gets my vote.
