trading Gudbranson seems like one big step back after taking a few steps forward. this move has to be setting up another. it is not going to help stop the bleeding in GA, unless there are further changes to the back end.

I notice they quickly buried this news story with the Father's Day special (which is a pretty lousy deal anyway)

They will probably draft an import defenseman and trade for a goalie(with the picks they got)

Bottom line he wanted out. The relationship between the Gudbranson's and Gilmour hit an all time low with a well publicized incident when Erik called out the coaching staff for their Mickey Mouse practices ( thankfully this has change with Gill, the practices are intense now) It was reported he wanted out last year so now a bit of "I want out payback" by sending him north where Alex's parent have much much further to travel to see him play.

The trade is good for Kingston in that it gives Kingston more options and assets to go after a goaltender. There is an abundance of D men so this will not hurt the team. The Soo get a stay at home and if he plays the simple game he can be very effective not a huge scoring D man. Don't expect a lot of fighting out of him and his foot speed isn't great. He is big and can clog up a lane, isn't afraid to use the body.

All in all a good trade for both with a slight edge to the Soo.

I'm disappointed by the trade. Gudbranson wasn't flashy but he was learning to play solid defense. IMO, The return was pretty poor and I could even see him being flipped for more a later date like we've witnessed many times before.

Interesting Whig article read and Gilmour's take on the trade. Gilmour talks about the deal, full ride players 1st rnd picks for education, more trades and the Euro draft which I read is probable trading away Beranek.

I liked Alex, but good riddance to the bone headed penalties.

Also, what is the ceiling for Roland McKeowen supposed to be? Is this a kid who's going to step in and anchor this blueline for a few years like Erik Gudbranson?

BTW Is this organization EVER going to take the time to groom a homegrown goalie into a starter? Went out and got Grubauer two years ago, Bobkov last year, and now we're going to acquire another OA goalie this year to basically put them in the exact same predicament next summer.

Can you or anybody else tell me what you guys think of Petr Beranek?

The Fronts have waived both Petr Beranek (opens the door for the 2 Import picks this year) and goaltender Jacob Riley, both acquired last year. This is from a Whig article today which isn't up online yet, when it is I'll post the link as the articl also talks about the Import draft and the golatending situation.

When do teams have to claim Beranek?

PetesFan94 - good question. Isn't there a trade freeze on now? I would think after that likely in Aug.

Now with the NHL draft done. Who does Doug and Todd have in their sites for Wednesday? Who did they talk to in Pittsburgh?

Do you think the Frontenacs should pursue Ben Hutton who they drafted a couple of years ago and got drafted by Vancouver on Saturday? He's a big kid that is a great skater who is scheduled to go NCAA next year.

I don't think there's room, we have around 14 forwards and 8 defenseman not including the 2 import picks/spots.

Hutton is a 19 yr old undrafted last year, he doesn't fit into the "Blue Print" of going young and building, but the main reason would be he starts at the University of Maine (Black Bears) this fall.

This is another Mavety pick, has anyone noticed the lack of Mavety picks left on this team. There are only a very small handful left.

Don't see them picking up a D-man tomorrow. Why would they? That would make the trade to free up ice time for Mckeown and Diperna kinda pointless. I see them drafting a center that can get Watson the puck on the third line and with their second pick, maybe a power forward to compliment the line or a goalie (Dansk) if still available.

According to Gilmour the fronts are looking to pick up one of the top 3 rated Russian forwards with their first pick. #6 overall while passing on the goaltender Dansk

Wow, Fronts taking Mikko Vainonen in the import draft. Shocking too me. Why block DiPerna and Mckeown..

....and internal competition. It's always best to have lots of competition for positions, that is what drives top teams. Healthy problem for management when you are over-loaded somewhere and then can adress other areas.

I dont think it is blocking DiPerna and Mckeown at all. Despite how good either of them are, you can't expect 2 16 year olds to step in and eat up top defensive minutes. Also there still is a learning curb for these kids coming in against bigger, stronger, faster and older players. They are building a very strong D core and they still have another pick to utilize on a decent forward or tender depending on what they feel is more suitable at the time.

Kingston Frontenacs have signed OA goalie Mike Morrison, formerly of Peterborough and Kitchener. #OHL
Hopefully Mo gets a chance to shine in Kingston, after a bit of a rough ride in Peterborough.

How about none of the above?

Kingston took Mikko Vainonen with their 1st selection, and Henri Ikonen with their 2nd selection.
