Can the Isles Get Tim Thomas?

Dont you all think that Tim Thomas would be another great steal for us?
I think thats what Snow should be looking at.
If Tight Wad, I mean Wang doesnt want to spend money, then look for these steals.
Two other guys that would be great in our lineup are;
Carlo Colaiacovo, D - only 29 from STL
Travis Moen, LW - 30 from MTL, total work horse.
Lee Stempniak, play C or RW 29 - from CGY
This would be a sweet pick up at great price tags...

why bother he's taking the year off. If he's not willing to report to the Bruins why would he come to the Isles?

I agree with the other guys you listed though, if any of them come aboard they would be nice pickups.

Yea Tim Thomas is going to come out of "retirement" to come to the Islanders. He won't play for a chance at the Stanley Cup with Boston but he will come to Long Island.

Tim Thomas sad he is going to take a season off. So i do not think it makes sense.
On the other hand u think we can use his salary towards the cap floor and not have to pay him.
So it could be right up Garth Ally

Far from the most overrated Goalie. There are other names most people would consider Overrated but Tim is most likely not one of them.

Assuming the Islanders don't use his contract to get over the cap min, the Islanders should take him off the Bruins hands(for free) sheltering his contract in hopes he decides he wants to come back in Dec/Jan, that way we can trade him for a decent return

Anyone can acquire this guy for next to nothing. Question is would you really want him?

Thomas has lost his damn mind!!! Was a cancer up here in Boston all season long. It's one thing to have your political opinions, another to have them impact your team mates in the press and locker room over petty crap.

Picking him up would be playing games with the salary cap. If he doesn't report, since he's on an >35 contract, the Isles still get his $5 million cap hit.

Problems:

1) If you don't know if he's going to report, you get a lot of goalie uncertainty (a 4-headed monster - Nabakov-Dipietro-Thomas-another backup?) If you're going to need to pull Bridgeport's goalie regularly, then the Isles need to re-sign Montoya, or bring Koskinen in from Europe, etc, it becomes a mess.
2) Thomas won't be given to us for free, he'll cost us a decent prospect or a good draft pick (and we don't have our 2013 2nd-rounder any more).

I'm confident with Nabokov as the isles #1 goalie.

I've zero interest in having Thomas come in.What a circus that would be:Nabokov,RD and Thomas all on the roster, taking up what $10m-$12m in salary?

No thanks.

It might not be an issue for Boston, but if they keep him it will eat up 5M of there salary cap. If they need that space they will dump him for as cheap as possible(they might even have to give a team something to take the contract, hence why I said pick him up for the price of free). If Boston basically plans to spend to the upper cap limit they will be looking for options to unload his contract(assuming he doesn't change his mind in the next 3 months)

I'm more confident that the Isles will get to the cap min because of Viz's cap hit. Shouldn't need Tim Thomas.

Tim Thomas! I'm leaving. I've assessed the situation, and I'm going.

Moen or Stempniak would be great though...

Dude I am farrrrrrrrr from the ledge. Fell off a long time ago. I just thought it was funny to think TT wouldn't want to play in Boston but would be ok playing in the hockey graveyard. That's like a guy refusing to play for the Yankees so he can instead play in San Diego for a 100 loss team year after year.

Tim Thomas on the Isles, oh lordy. Come on, doesn't this team have enough problems only to add yet another one? I live in Boston and am very familiar with all the 'stuff' with him.

NO on Tim Thomas.
We have Nabby as the #1 and we have one of Poulin or Nilsson as back up, and DP will likely be on the roster until he gets hurt.

That's 4 goalies.
No need for a 5th.

Your other options of Stepniak, Moen or Carlo are fine... I am also wonder how Isles fans would feel about Doan... apparently he will test the market...

At 35 he may be reaching his falling off point... but now a vet with leadership qualities and some playoff experience.... could he help our young forwards better then say an Alex Semin?

To a team at the cap floor, a $5 million cap hit has $5 million of value. If we had that asset last year, we could have sent Nino back to juniors. Or we wouldn't have had to pick up Rolsten. Boston would have plenty of takers for a $5 million cap hit with $0 cash outlay, and they would certainly get something of value back.

Am i the onyl; one that remembers that Nabby resigned? The guy was quality for us and at times was unbeatable.

If the Islanders can play some defense I think Nabby will surprise a lot of people. Furthermore, I like to think Poulin is going to be a key goaltender for us going forward. I like Nilsson better but Poulin is most likely going to get the nod as the backup in the NHL.

I do not think him not wanting to play has anything to do with Boston. I think he just wants to take some time.

There have been rumblings that he and the front office have had their spats. I can't verify any of it but it's just something I have heard. And even if he really does just want to take some time off, you can bet the islanders won't be the team to lure him out of his vacation/retirement/whatever.

Nooooo thank you, he's sitting out a full year and I love his play but he is definitely a bit of an attention *****. On top of that, we have Nabokov, who I am personally very comfortable with in net.
