he normally can. it seems obvious to me that giving them an option other than the stretch pass would help

He definitely sucked last year. There's no denying that. I think the breakout was a problem for the D because there was always an emphasis on moving the puck up the ice quickly. In general that's great but it shouldn't ALWAYS be the emphasis.

Both Martin and Letang got caught trying to jump into the play like wingers far too often. Then the back d makes a pass that gets picked off and it's an immediate 2 on 1. Sometimes you need to circle back, make a few short passes and go back on the attack. I think we'll see some changes in that regard.

Either way, Martin is a great skater and can carry the puck pretty well. He doesn't have game breaking moves or anything, but if you give him the opportunity, he's very effective.

I agree with Sivek. If you guys want to start a topic about Bylsma and Shero, feel free. Keep this one to talk directly related to the Staal trade and its outcomes. Thanks.

Anyway, I'm excited to see what this Dumoulin kid can do. Training camp should definitely be interesting with Despres, Dumoulin, Strait, Bort, and possibly Morrow all battling for spots.

He's turning pro this season I believe. WBS could have a stacked blue line. I wish I could see more of their games.

Dumoulin is turning pro / going to WBS. Shero mentioned this in one of his pressers. We'll probably see him in camp though I don't see any chance he makes the team early, never having played our system and having 3 guys who do know the system, ready to replace vets (Despres, Strait, Bortuzzo).

Think about this, if we can't move Strait and Bortuzzo and don't sign Nisky... they might both make the team and then in WBS you have all of: Despres, Morrow, Dumoulin. Talk about a stud blueline. I think Harrington is staying where he is due to age, correct?

What number do you guys think Sutter will pick? We discussed this about Vokoun and he picked #92.

He was #12 in Juniors on the Red Deer Rebels, then #16 in Carolina obviously because #12 was E. Staal's number.

So is it going to be #12, #16 or something different?

but Despres, Morrow, Dumoulin, Samuelsson, Grant, Sneep, Mcneill
is a pretty good blueline

Dumoulin already did turn pro and signed an entry level contract back in April.

we'll want 12 free for when we get Bugsy back

seriously, if Sutter gets 12 and looks like he's going to stick around a while I might have to get his jersey.

Do either Grant & Veilleux have to clear waivers to be send to WBS this season?

The main outcome of this trade..... is that you guys won't have to deal with any more cassius "trade Staal" threads next season.

Now if only we could trade the Pirates, and by that I mean the entire team (though I would settle for ridding ourselves of the Nuttings) then I would stop on them as well.

What would be more awesome would be to find a way to get us a feed of the game.

Also, are you not affiliated with tPB anymore?

I'm totally with you on that one.

Although I must admit: it is hilarious to see folks get excited about some minor moves each offseason.... yeah like trading a few players is going to somehow magically alter 20 years of bad decisions and MLB's total lack of parity. It's like shuffling chairs on the Titanic.
