The big news we can finally discuss is surrounding NJ today, where there is some wild speculation that the team could sign Parise and trade Kovalchuk to be able to be in a better position to sell the franchise. I was told about this by various sources earlier in the week, but now it's been intensifying...to say the least...Who could take on kovalchuk's contract? Who is interested? I was told four teams...The Wild, the Red Wings, the Islanders and the Canadiiens...
Yup, the Isles are going to take a player owed over $11M in real dollars each of the next 5 years, but a cap hit of only $6.66. Fits their MO to a tee.

I just frankly don't see KOvalchuk having that much value in a trade, other than to a select few teams who would love his cap hit and couldn't care less about his money.
Some of those teams (Rangers, Penguins) are off the list right away because of the divisonal aspect.
You know, I know this is Eklund we're talking about, but he has broken trades before and, more importantly, what he just said makes a lot of sense. We're talking about a team that we all know is in a bit of financial disarray and are currently faced with a conundrum: they have to sign their former 45 goal scorer and one of the best wingers in the game to a long term extension. If they value Parise more than Kovalchuk, which they should, and they don't think they can afford to keep both then one could see why they would consider trading Kovalchuk. Even though it's a huge contract, a long-term signed Kovalchuk who appears to be getting his game back would be attractive to many teams.
Don't be surprised if this particular scoop sticks to the wall for Eklund.
I'm not saying I believe this rumour, but it's not like Eklund said: 'Kovalchuk would accept a trade to Wild, the Red Wings, the Islanders and the Canadiiens'. He's saying that those teams are interested in Kovy, so all those 'Kovy wouldn't waive to NY' isn't related to what Eklund was trying to get across.
That being said, this rumour sounds like BS to me.
How this man continues to have a hockey website astounds me, unless his true intention is to have an NHL version of The Onion. If that latter is his intention, keep up the hilarity!
