That's the same logic that Scott Howson is using with the Rick Nash saga. It doesn't fly in either case.
So, I was thinking (nice, huh?) that 'cause Toronto is in need of a top 6 forward, Dubinsky would be a perfect player to target, a Burke-like player.
My suggestion is:
Dubinsky
MacArthur, 2nd and Gunnarsson
Not sure, if Rangers would need Gunnarsson, but I think that's a fair deal. MacArthur would IMO fit Rangers top-6, who can play a bottom 6 role too, if needed. A good playmaking type of a player, who can put up ~60 points, maybe 70 points if he hits a career year, but I think it's a reach.
Thoughts? Flamings? Anything?

Beyond the fact that Dubi would be an even more grossly overpaid third line winger on the Leafs than Mac is lined up to be, we are also including a 2nd and Gunnar?
No chance Gunnarsson leaves, and especially not for Dubinsky.
But just for kicks, if I was dealing Gunnarsson to the Rangers, I had want either one of the following thing in return:
- An upgrade on D( someone that can replace him immediately in a reliable situation on the top-pairing with Phaneuf), Girardi would be that guy,
or
- Derek Stepan
You really think Gunnar has any value that would make him the centerpiece of a Stepan trade? Wow, it amazes me how much Leafs fans value Gunnar. Guy is a 5/6 D man, thats all he'll ever be.
If you trade Gunnar and a pick for Dubinksy, or Gunnar for some bottom 6 FWD plus a later pick you should be happy.
I think Stewie has more upside but Dubi is a more effective player.
When Stewart isnt at the top of his game he doesn't do much to help a team, when Dubi isn't at the top of his game he is still one of the best shot blockers and penalty killers in the league.

People forget how valuable Dubinsky is when he isn't at the top of his game offensively. Still one of the better penalty killers and shot blockers in the league and plays a very good (albeit not Selke caliber) gritty, defensive game.

Girardi, who just finished 6th in Norris voting in is one of the best shutdown defenseman in the league would certainly command more than your immensely overated defenseman. Gunarsson would likely be the #5 dman in NY behind Girardi, Staal, McDonagh, Del Zotto.
And hell no to moving Stepan for Gunarrson. Step is a 22 year old up and coming two way center who just had 51 points this year playing consistant 2nd line minutes. He is going nowhere unless there is a significant upgrade involved.

That's not an overpayment... Stepan or Girardi for Gunnarsson is and would be the worst trade in modern history. If that trade happened I would literally do this.
1: Stop watch hockey.
2: Go over to New York and kill Glen Sather.
3: Go to Sather's grave and destroy it.
4: Murder anyone smoking cigars.
5: Kill myself.
I feel like Gunnarson doesn't have a lot of value around the league... I don't no why. I don't want to trade him at all. The guy has been a rock for us the last 2 years and has seriously solidified him self as a legit # 3 defensmen. Phaneuf, Gardiner and Liles are better but they have bad games, Gunnarson is ALWAYS on his game. The guy plays 20 minutes a night and is never caught out of position. I love the guy.
