Dont be surprised
Canucks have just as good a shot as the Rangers. Don't want to get into a pissing match.

I just said, it comes down a personal choice...Not every athlete wants to play for their home town team, the pressure is intense. I know I would

You are, are you? Care to share some of these 'hints and clues' with the rest of us less fortunate?

Excellent first post!

I know its hard for fanboys to understand, but theres more factors involved then what team you cheered for as a kid.. Its business, and putting personal feelings into a business decision isn't usually good for business..

I have nothing other then speculation to go on, just like you.

Sorry, I meant the Canucks have just as good a shot at winning the Cup as do the Rangers. This is just my opinion, but I don't think it's out of line at all. The odds makers back me up as well.

Finalists could be:

Rangers offer McDonagh, Stepan + competing for SC next year + high profile
Toronto offers other bf Gardiner, + great hockey history
St. Louis - offers Pieterangelo, shot at cup
Edmonton offers need, location
Vancouver offers location, shot at cup

one can only hope...

Odds makers also place Toronto with the best odds among Canadian teams after the Canucks... Take it for what its worth.

I have a feeling (maybe wishful thinking ) that it will be Vancouver. We rarely seem to get mentioned in free agent signings unless we have a fairly good shot. The fact that both Gillis and Gilman went to the meeting makes me think that Vancouver is at least one of the top choices. As I say I could be reading too much into this but it sounds a lot like when we signed Hamhuis as a free agent when there were rumours placing us as his destination. We'll see though.

But he once went to a Tim Hortons with Jeff Petry. Obviously Edmonton has the inside track.

Not sure why everyone thinks he will sign with either Canucks or Oiler

the only thing that's "for sure" is that he won't be wearing Ducks uniform next year..

IMO NYR, Det both has equal chances of landing this guy.

Imagine he signs with NYI on July 1st LOL

It's going to be Toronto. They have all his prerequisites for playing there. Plus, they have Gardiner. I would say that Gardiner is what puts TO over the rest of the field. Think about Jordan Staal. Offered 60M, and to play on a Cup contender. He turned it down to play with his brother. Schultz is going to come play with his best friend, and he plays in Toronto.

the Staal incident implies the importance of family - Schultz's lives in BC

For every player that chooses a team based on where their friend is playing......there are 30 more players who choose a team for other reasons.

Staals family lives in Ontario

Gardiner is like his brother. They've both said it themselves

It depends on what his prerequisites are. If he wants to play for a contender or wants to be near family then Toronto does not have the prerequisites.

As per twitter

TSNRyanRishaug
Oilers intention is to have Taylor Hall part of Schultz pitch. May have them meet in the next few days.

Well, the Canucks have technically been contenders for the last couple years, and I don't think that Schultz is the guy that if you get him, he'll get you there.

And what 22 year old single guy wants to be near his parents? They wanna be living it up with their best friend

People shouldn't assume he's going to do one thing or another. The whole "contender" thing for young players in my opinion is a little overused. I can understand older players are more likely to desire this if they've never won a cup.

In my opinion, I think its family/friends, city lifestyle, organization (good facility/coaches/etc) that are really important.

Every player is different in what they want.

My gut says its Vancouver.. but I'm a pessimist... I truly just want this to end soon so I can move on!
