You're right he didn't "demand" a trade but his feelings are certainly a lot more powerful than a shoulder shrug and an "I don't care if I'm traded". The Ducks don't need an unhappy camper hanging around. And where there's smoke, there's fire. If the Ducks put him out on the block at the deadline and again prior to the draft, chances are they have expressed legit thoughts in trading him. If the value is there, they would deal him.

Schenn/Couturier aren't being traded for the kid. I mean I like Ryan and all, but Homer is right to not even consider moving Schenn and Coots. Murray will cave and trade him for less than you expect (not necessarily to Philly, but someone).

I'm sure a lot of Ducks fans will scoff at this, but that's not far out of the question. Voracek looked absolutely ridiculous in the playoffs and deserves his spot right next to Giroux on the first line. That being said, if Ryan is put back on Getzlaf and Perry's line like he should be, I'd expect Ryan to produce more. There's no reason RPG can't be the best line in the NHL again.

If you think that's why he had such a down year, you are mistaken.

That certainly sounds like an unhappy camper to me....someone who is frustrated and ready to move to a team where he really feels wanted. Once that doubt is planted, it doesn't disappear. And it doesn't help that Murray came out acting like a tough guy, saying, "I don't like what he said and I'm going to have a talk with him." and crap like that. Between this and Justin Schultz, it really makes you wonder if Bob Murray is rubbing players the wrong way with his attitude.

As a Pens fan, I can't imagine why they would. Shero was adamant about targeting Sutter because he could replace many of the things Staal did defensively, and he's always been a proponent of depth down the middle. Further, the Pens should be looking to become harder to play against after the last playoff series, not easier. Trading their most prolific hitter doesn't accomplish that.

Ryan would be great on the Pens, but not at that price. I'd be happier signing Ray Whitney to a short-term deal for Ryan money.

I suggested a trade involving a couple of our high-end defense prospects and roster player, but it got shot down pretty quickly. Outside of that kind of swap, I don't see much room for a deal here. The Ducks will just have to try to find another suitor who's willing to give up a young center with legit scoring center upside - it'll be interesting to see if they find one.

Everyone was terrible last year. Everyone. Carlyle simply could not adapt to our roster. On top of that, Ryan was always the guy in his dog house. People think Carlyle juggled his lines a lot, but that's not the case. Getzlaf-Perry and Koivu-Selanne were always kept in tact. Ryan was the guy that would often be shoved on to a makeshift third line with guys that have nowhere near his ability. I'm curious what other reasoning there could be...

Pick one from each row

Row A - 2013 1st, Kyle Okposo, Grabner
Row B - Nino, Strome,
Row C - De Haan, Donnovan, Mayfield

If they demand the 1st, then Kyle & Grabner should be off the table.

I hope the Isles wouldn't offer more. To me that's a very attractive package.

Well then, that settles it...Read is just about at Ryan's level then.

Based on your assessment, however, why give up the additional asset (Meszaros) when you can just swap Read straight up for maybe Ryan Kesler? I mean, based on your logic, it would be a fair trade, right?

Matt Read - 24 Goals - 23 Assists - 47 Points

=

Ryan Kesler - 22 Goals - 27 Assists - 49 Points (Just about even)

Heck, if you really want to include Mez, though, you could probably get players like Evander Kane (younger than Ryan with similar value/potential), Rick Nash, Gabriel Landeskog, Ryan Getzlaf, etc...since after all Read wasn't far behind them in the stat sheets, which in effect, makes it a fair deal, right?

Evander Kane - 30 Goals - 27 Assists - 57 Points
Rick Nash - 30 Goals - 29 Assists - 59 Points
Gabriel Landeskog - 22 Goals - 30 Assists - 52 Points
Ryan Getzlaf - 11 Goals - 46 Assists - 57 Points

Other potentials:
David Backes - 24 Goals - 30 Assists - 54 Points
Ryan Callahan - 29 Goals - 25 Assists - 54 Points
Dustin Brown - 22 Goals - 32 Assists - 54 Points
Ryan O'Reilly - 18 Goals - 37 Assists - 55 Points
Paul Stastny - 21 Goals - 32 Assists - 53 Points

I'm sure there are more, but you get the drift...Read's value isn't close.

going to be a pretty nasty line
If you want to be technical about it his home is Cherry Hill, NJ so technically the Devils would be home.

I know he was a Flyers fan and his dad's relationship to the Flyers.

Precisely. Anyone that puts up better numbers with better players is only a product of said players. Sounds like sound logic to me.

Cherry Hill, NJ is in Flyers Country. It's 5 miles from Philly and 8 miles from their practice facility in Voorhees, NJ.

You forgot the part where he said, "but I'd be happy anywhere in any lineup as long as the rumors go away." Sounds like that would include the Ducks, as long as his name stops being mentioned in rumors.

Except that his best season on a pro rated basis came when he wasn't playing with them.
