He is NOT overpaid. The problem with this contract is the length.

It's not horrific now, but could potentially be a burdening factor in five years. At the end of the day I am not overly thrilled with the contract, but I am happy to be adding the player.

He undoubtedly makes us a better team today.

THANK THE HEAVENS that there was no NTC attached to the deal.

will you make the playoffs and make noise after that with this signing?

It only takes him to the age of 34 - I'm okay with that. It's not like it's a questionable contract that runs out when he's 44 making $5/hour in his last season or something like that.

The chances of that have gone up, not down, after this signing.

I'm really happy with this. Feaster addressed a problem and it didn't cost us a ridiculous amount. Every team wants a top 4 defensemen and we got one here with a right hand shot.

Another in a line of great moves by Feaster.
The flames should be proud of Feaster he outbid Tampa to get Wideman's services

Not a huge fan of the price, but Wideman definitely fills a hole for the Flames: we need more offence from the point, as well as that RH shot on the PP.

As for his defensive deficiences and how he played in Wash, it really comes down to how a player is utilized and who they are paired with - we shall see, I guess.

Also, with Wideman, I would think they would try to move Babchuk. And if so, looking at it as a trade-up, I don't mind the price so much anymore.

The thing that I keep thinking though, is: imagine if the Flames manage to sign Suter... not only would Suter and Wideman be a great pairing, but with the top 2 UFA d-men gone, the value for JBo would be off the charts! It would be sheer brilliance on Feaster's part!

What is the most brilliant point of Feaster's GM manship is how he traded away Regher with 2nd (and (Kolatik) and that hefty 4M contract with 2 years left and replaced it with Wideman 5.3M 5 year NMC contract.

Anyone else blown away by Feaster as GM?

What's brilliant about this post is you conveniently ignore Regehr's NMC.

And is it a NMC, or NTC? I'd like a source on this please.

I do like Wideman, but I hate this contract, especially with a NMC attached.

He should definitely improve our PP, though.

The details have not been released.

Steinberg said the Flames have confirmed that a NTC/NMC has been confirmed to some degree.

Wideman is the type of dman that every team needs. If this doesn't work out It's not like a player of his caliber cannot be moved if need be.

Gio has a partner, whether it will only be the pp or full type, this will be good.

Judging by the reaction of the armchair GMs around HF, this "albatross" of a contract is an ersatz NMC. The fine print is simply a bunch of words on a piece of paper to make it official.

A full NMC. Did Feaster just let Wideman's agent walk over him?

Has there been a link to the nmc? Also it would appear so.

So much for Feaster not handing out NMC/NTC like candy. And all that nonsense about 'managers manage, coaches coach and players play' was just that, nonsense.

It's like we would send him down to the AHL anyways so it's like a NTC.

And if it comes down to it, when the management is not happy with him, or the fans, or himself with tis team, I'm sure he'd accept a trade to wherever
