I stated earlier in this thread that Wideman makes TOO MUCH sense for the Flames and that they can't pass him up. I'm very pleased that Feaster made this happen.
Calgary wont be done with this, though. Feaster will make another UFA splash to land a forward, wait and see. Perhaps Hudler??

I hate the Wideman signing he is not good defensively and isn't good enough on the pp for that contract.
but if you pair him with a good dman maybe he could be ok. him a gio would be nice on the 1 or 2 pairing. the RH shot is huge for this team too
Yea I like the RH shot but my problem is he makes a million+ more than Gio and is not worth that. This also means that if we use Tanguay on the point agian one of Jbo, Brodie, Widemann, Gio aren't on the pp.
Stajan is a complimentary player he isn't the kind of guy that can do it on his own, I was merely showing when given a chance on the top line he becomes an effective top line player.
No, he isn't.

I don't care if he is on the first or second line but he needs to be on one of them. One of my main reasons is this year only
The Devils, The Flyers, and the Predators made the playoffs with a below 50% team faceoff precent.
While The Flames, The Ducks, The Oilers, The Islanders, The Canadiens, The Lightning, The Jets, The Stars, and The Sabres all missed the playoffs with a below 50% faceoff precent.
Only 25% of the teams with a below 50% faceoff made the playoffs while 72% of teams with a faceoff% higher than or equal to 50 made it. The main reason I believe is unless your top players are great at defense you are wasting their time with not winning the faceoff.
It looks like we need to replace Jokinen's 1333 draws. If we let Cammy take them based on this years numbers he would win 608 of them but Stajan would win 690. Which gives our top players the puck and lets them play offensive.
100% of teams using Matt Stajan in a top 6 role have missed the playoffs.

Great detective work atleast back up your arguments. But I guess we need a whipping boy after Stajan who is the next player run out of town. Backlund? Cervenka?

How much game footage should I present as evidence to show that the top six game is too fast for Stajan? He's either barrelling around at full speed yet always seems to get there just a second too late or is moving a gear slower than everybody else when he's finally in the right position, Shaun Van Allen with less hair if you will. If he were making $1.25M a year he'd be an acceptable bottom two centre, at $3.5M a year he does not fit an acceptable role for any team wanting to do anything worthwhile.

I'm sure somebody will fill the void left by Bork.
I see Mr. Stajan on his way out of town once a few teams can't reach the floor after free agency. Would be a good way to get a third or fourth back from the fifth we lost today.
I wouldn't mine if feaster brought in someone like Bryan Allen for around 2.5. He's a physical hard to play against guy like feaster wants and has history with bouwmeester in Florida, so at least there's a connection

Id be ok with Allen too, but hes one of the top FA D-men available. I don't see him getting less than 3Mil.
Most of these guys are capable of more offense, but if we score roughly 10-15 more goals then last season, on top of hopefully a better defense (one which Butler is not on the top pairing) we are a playoff team.
