3. I'd be willing to throw 4.00m/year at Doan and 2.75m/year at Gaustad.
I doubt 4 a year gets it done for Doan, unless it is for 4-5 years. A team like Colorado has money to burn just to get to the floor.

Gaustad looks about right, though.

To my mind, it is a bit more fun, at this point, to try to figure out which 4 teams weren't interested than guess where he'll end up.

Beyond Anaheim, I could see both Florida and Phoenix not even bothering with a phone call--both non traditional hockey markets with stacked defenses / prospect pools.

Maybe Nashville, simply because they are so focused on Weber and Suter and have a plethora of young, middle-pairing d-men?

I am going to be shocked if we are in that final 5 or 7.

I really wouldn't be. I just wish Homer would go meet with him, but that doesn't seem to be Homers MO. I just hope we have some potential in signing him. The main boards are funny too. Every team that gets Schultz magically has Suter playing on their defense also. Amazing how that works out

I don't get it. His contract will be exactly the same no matter where he goes. Why have a list of 5-7 teams? It's not like he can get a bidding war going. Just pick a team and stop with the "LOOK AT ME" theatrics.

You may add Pittsburgh to the list of teams that won't offer, they have a lot of young defensemen in the system and already try to make room for them: Depres, Strait, Dumoulin, Bortuzzo, Morrow, Sneep, Mtt and Pouliot.

If Holmgren isnt willing to go meet with him then hes not coming to Philly.
With all the young defensive studs in the Philly system who needs Schultz
looks like the usual suspects in that final list of teams sans Detroit.

It's probably the 5 teams that he wants to meet with. College recruits do the same thing.... they get 500 letters of interest, they pick the 5 that they are interested in seeing more about, then they do a recruiting visit (in this case, a face to face meeting), then pick a school.

We could really use the size and right-handed shot that Schultz would bring. Too bad the same thing could be said about nearly every other team in the league. I doubt we land Schultz, but I'm glad we've at least got the feelers out there. It's also good that we did address the lack of right-handed defencemen with the Schenn acquisition. Still, imagine this defensive lineup:

Grossmann - Coburn
Timonen - Schultz
Carle/Meszaros - Schenn

Holmgren needs to call Giroux and say, "G, I need you to let me fly you out to Toronto to meet with this kid."

This is all about making the kid feel like you're willing to go the extra mile to separate yourself from the other bidders.

Or Timonen.

"I don't always travel to meet prospective UFA defensemen. But when I do, it's because the Flyers are really interested.

"Stay in Philadelphia, my friend."

Wait til you get to the end of that piece... he'll pick Vancouver because Chicago and Detroit have been "eternally stalled in the first round in recent playoffs."

Because out of Detroit, Chicago, and Vancouver, it is the Canucks with the pedigree tradition.

Seriously--for others, dont' waste your time. I feel dumber for having spent 45 seconds on that.

EDIT: I'm not doubting Vancouver is a likely choice, but there's not a lot new in those pieces, and some of the content is just plain silly.

Umm, yeah. The points about Schultz's hometown, etc., may actually be spot-on, but the sheer obviousness of other players' decisions has been locked down many times before ... and then proven wrong.

We shall see.

That's the first thought that I had. Plus, Detroit isn't the sort of organization to bend over backwards for a player that's spent zero time in the NHL.

Yeah what ever haha he answered my question so I don't care, also according to ******* ******** who actually called several trades before anyone else did, said we are one of the top 5 teams with us being 4th in a chance of picking him Shultz up, just saying, he said in order Vancouver, Edmonton, I forget the third team, Philly, Toronto so we might have a shot or this guy is bull, I'm going with the bull haha
