I really doubt Carle is gone.
I think he is re-signing. Who out on the market that will replace him? Unless we sign Schultz, Carle will be back as a flyer.

Widemans contract just made it even harder to sign Carle.

5.5 is now a hometown discount based on Wideman. Good god that is a horrific contract
I hate the guy, but if D men are gonna get that type of contracts, Carle at under 5 mill is a good deal for the Flyers.

I firmly believe that, if Carle's agent tries to use the Wideman contract as a basis for negotiations, Holmgren will remind him about the signing mark-up for being a non-playoff team in disarray with a shallow prospect pool and not enough sense to rebuild.

That's doubly impressive considering the Caps only scored 218 goals last season. Wideman had to have had both assists on more than half of them. He also more than doubled Gretzky's single-season assist record (163).
He's a scoring machine, that guy! What a steal for the Flames!

They counted his turnovers and terrible defensive plays as assists for the other team. In reality, he only had 4 assists for the Caps.

Touché!
In other news, Matt Carle is waiting for a phone call from the 403 area code.

The 100 million dollar "kid"
Wow - Crosby signed a deal for $100 million with a 9 million cap hit. What insurance company is insuring that. Wasn't it this time last year that folks were talking about his family trying to convince him to retire?

I am shocked by this. Honestly, after watching the Flyers-Penguins series, you could tell it wasn't the same Crosby. He looked "OK" and Giroux dominated him. I don't wish him bad health, but I am not sure I would have been in a hurry to sign him if I was the Penguins. Especially for 12 years $104 million.

He's referring to the 104.4 over 12 years.... That's very risky considering his concussion history.

Great deal for crosby, not a bad deal for the penguins either. If he ends up playing it out it'll be fantastic for them.

It seems like he's one hard hit from not playing it out, though.

I wonder if there is anything in the agreement about a buyout if he is forced to retire due to injury? Imagine if he does get another concussion and cannot play a day of that contract. Would he call a presser to retire, or would he go LTIR and force the Penguins to pay him $8.7M for 12 years for nothing. Something tells me Crosby would retire and wouldn't take the money, but it is quite the risk.

It's not $50M. It's going to be at least $55M.
