You bring up a valid point about him not being as good at 31 and beyond. But if DL tries to argue that point his people are just going to turn around and mention how great Quick was this season, and likely this coming season for a paltry cap hit of 1.8 million.
I have no problem giving overpaying Quick a little bit or giving him extra years as a thank you for his great years here and what he accomplished at such a bargain rate for the Kings.
It's ok to do it for your own players. The problem is when you bring in guys like Doan or Smyth and overpay them for what they did on other teams even though they will never do it here.
That would be ideal. Once they have that commitment, they could also look into moving Bernier and maybe sign a cheaper backup (say Montoya or Clemmensen) and look into upgrading the #2 LW spot since it seems that Penner won't be back.
Bernier makes only 1.25 million per year, how much cheaper are they going to go get a solid back up. I really dont see any hurry to move Bernier, and if anything he's a bit of a wildcard as far as value goes.
Rich Hammond is becoming more and more useless. Like his tweet is so pointless, what is the point of that? "Kings talking long term extension with Quick"..? Ok, thanks Rich, we only knew that about 5 days ago lol. I don't even remember the last time I checked that guy's website and he used to be one of the best Kings writers when he had his old job.
Finally, given that Jonathan Quick’s name will soon be on the Stanley Cup, this is Cup-related. Quick can sign a contract extension starting on July 1, and based on what I’ve been told, negotiations are going very well, and the two sides are talking about a long-term deal. It’s hard to overstate how good this would be for the Kings. Not only would they get Quick locked up long-term, and not have to worry about him testing free agency next summer, but they would be able to have a firm idea of their salary structure for years to come, and determine whether or not they can take a swing at a high-profile free agent. Just a reminder, though, that Quick can’t sign a new deal until July 1 at the earliest.

Oh well
Rich is good for the interviews and that's it. Other than that, he's usually hours, if not days, behind on other things.
