What team should I follow when the Wild don't re-sign Lats? I'm thinking either San Jose or Philly. I honestly can't believe how stupid Fletcher can be if he doesn't re-sign Lats to a one year deal.
As an injury replacement? Absolutely. That's what good teams do, plug a player like Palmer or McIntyre into their top 6 when they have injuries. The NHL doesn't work like EA Sports games where you can stick a high quality veteran top 6 player in as your 13th/14th forward.
Exactly. One difference this year is we should have better depth to replace injured players. We just don't want to be in a situation where we have to dive too deep too fast.

Please tell me you're kidding. If you give up on the Wild and switch teams just because of this, then........wow.

Whats that word you love to use? Strawman?
I'm not talking about a high quality veteran, I'm talking about a one year $2.5M player who would still be a quality 3rd liner or depth option if stars like Palmer or Mcintyre beat him out of the top 2 lines.
Play with fire and get burned. I'm not saying he's gone for sure, because teams may not want the risk, but all it takes is one team to offer 2 years. Just one and he's gone. ****.

I really don't give a ****. I'm going to be beyond pissed off if he's not back this season. The ONLY thing that will make me feel any better about not re-signing Lats is if we get Parise and we all know the chances of that happening are slim to none.
As one of the biggest supporters of us re-signing Lats, I have to say many of you are dramatically overreacting. I would have much rather preferred he be re-signed, but this does not mean it can't happen. It's entirely possible that he'll sign back here next week after seeing what other teams offer.
Ultimately, by not re-signing Lats, Fletcher has solved our over-staffing issue in the top 6. Any scenario that included a healthy Lats, healthy Bouchard, and free agent signing (like Parise) would have forced Granlund to play in Houston. That's what the situation with our top 6 looks like right now. Be disappointed, I know that I am, but it's certainly far from the end of the world.

Idk, but its gonna suck having to change your username.
Good because that was a dark, dark day in Minnesota Wild history. Thank God all these second rounders who can play a top-9 role are finally beginning to be ready.

Pittsburgh seems like a team that has alot of fans that like to jump on and off of the bandwagon. Toronto maybe? Just a thought.

If anyone's making a strawman, it's you. I have been Lats' most ardent supporter since the start.
Feel free to find teams that have better secondary options than we do. I'm sure there's 3-4 of them, but there's 25-26 of them who don't. We'll be waiting to see how "terrible" our depth is compared to others.

While it may actually be good for Granlund to get some time down there, Fletcher would never do it. Do you see how the team is using him for PR? Cripes, they're offering an autographed jersey from him to those who buy season tickets. That right there can squash any possible mention of him in trades for a guy like B. Ryan. They're hyping Granlund like crazy knowing it'll get some extra butts in the seats. He may not become this savior to the team like some predict, but the club is hoping he's the temporary savior that saves the fans from bolting.

So, Palmer, Mcintyre, and a bunch of 19-20 year old kids fresh out of Canadian shinny hockey give the Wild top 5 depth in the NHL?
I'll obviously still support the Wild, but I do see where he is coming from. To me, it just shows a lack a commitment to winning. A small gamble and investment for a huge payoff..... it just seems like a really cheap and gutless movie to lose a guy over such a small amount of money.
I'm glad Leopold and Co are choosing to go completely balls deep in risk by putting it all on getting Parise and/or Sutter but wont take a cheaper risk on a guy who has potential and is already on the roster.
There is much greater risk to the team by not signing him. I really hope this is just Gui's agent trying to raise the bar a little bit.
So what, assuming no suter, no parise, and no Lats we go into the next season with this:
Scandella-Gilbert
Brodin-Third tier overpaid D man
Spurgeron-Stoner/Falk/Prosser/
Problem is that unless Granlund can slide into the number two center and another prospect can pick up a top six role like a champ, that's a lottery team.
Lottery roster = upset leopold = GMCF has to do something stupid to keep his job= GMCF does something stupid that doesn't work and looses his job = longer rebuilding process for us fans
The Wild are just in such an awkward place right now. Damned if you damned if you don't. If we don't get any substantial upgrades during free agency I really really hope that Leopold and Fletcher don't loose their composure and go for short term gains at the expense of everything they have done so far.
