Crosby is a 3C? Or is this your way of say Hjalm is not a #5d?

The latter. He can carry a bottom pairing, but that's not the most optimal use of his ability and talent. He's a second-pairing defensive guy.

Unfortunately, that's what the Oil already have a lot of. (Otherwise I'd be trying to initiate more discussions involving Methot.)

Niklas Hjalmarsson to Edmonton Oilers Pending?

It is reported that the Oilers are attempting to acquire Hjalmarsson and probably have to be willing to give up a significant piece to get him as he would definitely slip into the top 4: http://oilersnation.com/2012/6/25/re...as-hjalmarsson

Who would be going the other way, maybe Magnus Paajarvi?

That would give the Oilers a pretty good defense of Smid, Schultz, Hjalmarsson, Petry, Whitney, Sutton, Potter and Peckham with Klefbom, Marincin or Musil pushing to make the team.

No bad and deeper than the other teams in the NW division.

Sam Gagner probably going to the Hawks. Chicago desperately needs more depth and skill at centre.

Just what the Oilers need a Dman who has had his role reduced recently due to injury.

Not sure if serious, he is a fine top 4 d-man that would immediately slot into Oilers 2nd-pairing like a baseball glove.

Hjalmarsson>>Gagner

Horrible trade for the Hawks. I could see Hjalmarsson for MPS.

He was injured part of the season and his stats aren't bad considering: http://espn.go.com/nhl/player/_/id/3...as-hjalmarsson

I wonder what Ottawa would offer?

That is the most absurd thing I've read...EVER. Truly laughable.
I do think it would be a good idea to go after a D-man like Hammer though. They need SOME sort of stability back there.

I actually think it would be a pretty good trade for both teams if Gagner ends up as a return. Gagner has shown some great chemistry with Kane before, and who knows they might me able to gel something going and gel quite well together.

Wouldn't hurt to take a shot at him, at the very least.

Check it out Bubba, the others may have an individual or couple of better D but the Oilers with Niklas Hjalmarsson are as deep as any of them.

The Oilers need a massive injection of quality on their backend. Hjalmarsson doesn't provide that. He's just another 4, 5 or 6 defenceman.

Come on give us a break, the writer of this rumor writes 3-4 pieces a day and is rarely right. Jonathan Willis has little contacts and gets most of his material from other blogs or forms and often does little or any research. There is nothing pending about this and no reason the Oilers should sign a D that will cost them 3.5mil to play 3rd pairing minutes. Niklas Hjalmarsson may block shots and is sound defensively, but he is a marshmallow that rarely hits and a team like the Oilers that relies on their D for their grit, Niklas Hjalmarsson is the last person you want.

Pending? Not true.

That article is simply 1 of the Oilersnation writers speculating.
