I expect a young offensive minded defenceman with Hamhuis and key shutdown third pairing for our back. Kesler will be the veteran with Kassian and a young playmaker for our second line. Not a real gutsy decision in dealing with individual players, but I think that these will be the line combinations.
That looks ugly. Don't think 37 year old Sedins will still be playing, let alone on the first line.

Kassian-Kesler-Jensen
Sweatt-Gaunce-Rodin
Burrows-Schroeder-Hansen
-Lapierre-

Edler-Tanev
Hamhuis-Corrado
Conaughton-Sauve

Scheneider
Lack/Cannata

I hope I'm nowhere close to being right

It's hard to do these with anticipating trades and FA signings, then someone will bump this in 5 years and say "hurr durr, look how stupid everyone is"

That said

Etem-Getzlaf-Perry
Ryan-Holland-Palmieri
Kerdiles-Rakell-Smith Pelly (checking/scoring line FTW)
Friberg-Karlsson-ehhh idk

Fowler-Beauchemin
Sbisa-Lindholm
Vatanen-Clark

Hiller
Gibson

I'll try with the guys mostly in the system, but I doubt this is what will actually happen

Sedin Sedin Kassian
Jensen Schroeder Kesler
Higgins Gaunce Hansen
Rodin Friesen Mallet

Edler Corrado
Hamhuis Tanev
Mcnally Bieksa

Schneider
Lack

To the poster a few up, I don't see why the Sedin's wouldn't be around in 5 years, atleast as 2nd line players

Lupul-Colborne-Frattin
D'Amigo-Mckegg-Biggs
Ross-Carrick-Devane

Rielly-Phaneuf
Gardiner-Blacker

My assumptions (however unfair/incorrect they may be):

Hall converts to center

We draft in the Top 5-10 next year and take Pulock or another highly rated defender

Prospects develop into their roles well

Hartikainen-RNH-Eberle
Paajarvi-Hall-Yakupov
Moroz/Zharkov-Lander-Jones
Hamilton-Pitlick-Pelss
Rieder

Klefbom-Petry
Smid-Pulock
Marincin-N.Schultz
Teubert

HOPEFULLY:

Schenn - Giroux - Voracek
xxx - Couturier - Simmonds
Wellwood - Laughton/Cousins - xxx
xxx - Laughton/Cousins - Talbot?

We always seem to be able to spit out quality grinder/bottom-6 forwards. I see Rinaldo, Laughton, Cousins, Brown, Akeson, McGinn, Holmstrom and even the goon Mathers as being "possible" NHL players. Tweeners most of 'em, though.

Coburn - Schenn
Carle? - xxx
Grossmann? - xxx

Gustafsson, Bourdon, Manning and some other minor prospects have a shot at making the big club but it's a crapshoot.

aaaaand who the **** knows in terms of goaltenders. Bryz probably still. Hovinen, Heeter and even the new 2nd rounder could be possibilities. Hovinen looks decent.

Will probably be way different with trades/UFA.

Michalek-Spezza-Silfverberg
Stone-Turris-Zibanejad
Foligno-Smith-Noesen (love the thought of this line)
Greening-JOB-Puempel
Prince/Hoffman?

Cowen-Karlsson
Borowiecki-Ceci
Claesson-Wiercioch
Some vet in there somewhere.

Lehner
Anderson/Bishop

Does that mean I can use Toews in the Habs line-up?

Tried to balance the lines, so many prospects though.. you'd think GM BM would flip atleast one of them for some D help in the near future.

This will likely be nothing like the actual team, it is mostly wishful thinking and some guess work:

Sergei Kostitsyn - Craig Smith - Bobby Ryan*
Pontus Aberg - David Legwand - Patric Hornqvist
Gabriel Bourque - Nick Spaling - Austin Watson
Taylor Beck - Michael Latta - Matt Halischuk
Miikka Salomaki

Ryan Suter** - Shea Weber***
Roman Josi - Mattias Ekholm
Mikko Vainonen - Ryan Ellis

Pekka Rinne
Magnus Hellberg

*I think we could trade for a top line forward like Bobby Ryan maybe using guys like Colin Wilson and Jon Blum to do so.

**Depends on if Suter re-signs, if not then a free agent or maybe Roman Josi could fill that spot.

***Again this is dependent on Suter re-signing I think, but again if not a free agent or draft pick would fill this spot.

I think I've been highly reliant on our farm system here. But I have full confidence in guys like Latta, Beck and Watson progressing. I have gone out on a limb on the likes of Vainonen, Ekholm and Aberg but I'm hopeful.

Varlamov
Neuvirth

Obviously there would be FA's sprinkled in, but that's a potential lineup including only guys drafted (or developed, in Laich's case) by the Caps and in the system now.
Gah. That forward group looks ugly now. I'll take a stab at an updated version.

Ovechkin-Backstrom-Forsberg
Galiev-Johansson-Kuznetsov
Barber-Laich-Wilson
Stephenson-DiPauli-Mitchell
Herbert

Alzner-Carlson
Orlov-Schilling
Flemming-Kundratek
Wey

Holtby
Grubauer

The bottom-6 forward and bottom 3 defensemen will likely be totally different, as well as the backup G, but that's my best attempt based on what's in the organization.
