Miettinen for Stewart or Santorelli.

Buy-out for buy-out.

That would be beyond stupid on the part of the JETS. Hainsey is still an effective top 4 defenseman and will command a very nice return at the trade deadline. That's asset management.

If Oduya brought back a 2nd and a 3rd, it's not a reach to think Hainsey can bring back a late 1st or at the least what they received for Oduya.

I am not sure if you guys understood what I meant in the OP. Last year, the Dallas Stars needed to add a player they didn't really want in Nystrom in order to get above the cap floor and avoid penalties. If they had a few buyout dollars on the salary cap, this situation would not have happen.

I'm looking at a team like Carolina. There are at around 10M under the cap floor and they basically have their whole team signed. Maybe for them, it would be "safer" to have 25-26 players on their payroll instead of only 23. If a player end up getting injured, they might get into a messy situation like Dallas last year.

According to capgeek, other teams that might be in "trouble" :
Winnipeg, 15 players signed, 16M under the floor
Ottawa, 15 players signed, 17M under the floor
Phoenix, 17 players signed, 20M under the floor
St-Louis, 18 players signed, 12M under the floor

Maybe some of my examples weren't the best ones (Crombeen, Santorelli, Bradley etc.) but he still think that the cap floor could be an issue for some GMs. For example buying out, Eric Godard would be a win-win situation for Dallas, because that would free a contract spot, Dallas would save some money (1/3 of Godard's salary) and they would be closer to the cap floor.

I think they will have to give a second Buy-out window after the CBA to adjust to the new Salary Cap. So your not going to see much happen till then.

...and I think the new CBA won't have a set floor of $16Mil from the cap, but rather a set % from the cap.

@TSNBobMcKenzie
FLA puts Mike Santorelli on waivers; FLA puts Matt Bradley on unconditional ($125) waivers, presumably for buyout/termination of contract.

I love when people seem so confident and are so wrong. Good moves by FLA, those guys have become redundant and unnecessary.

In looking over the OP, why would teams bother buying out 1 term contracts that have such a low hit? Doesn't make a lot of sense in my eyes. Am I missing something?
