Well the 2nd rhd spot is his to lose, we only have Girardi. Torts gives young guys a shot. Look at kreider he never played one nhl game and we played him in the playoffs. We are young team, a contender, and stepan and mcd are former teammates
Erixon is going to be very good, not sure this is an indictment of him at all. Might have consequences for impending big-raise dman Michael Del Zotto though.
If you can get a top forward for MDZ, get Schultz and have Erixon in the wings, keep Stralman (maybe) and progress on the Sauer front...
Yeah, well ideally if Schultz signed in NY and is as good as he's made out to be, the following lineup would be rather amazing
Girardi-McDonagh
Schultz-Staal
Sauer-Erixon
Del Zotto traded for forward help
I really like Del Zotto, to be honest, so I don't lately say "just trade him away!" but we're just talking about ideas here
According to Pierre LeBrun at ESPN.com, the Rangers, Oilers and Canucks are believed to be on the short list of teams that Justin Schultz is interested in signing with.
Does Schultz wanna be on a good team that plays young players like Rangers, rebuilding team like Oilers or a team that vanishes after round 1 and have a goalie situation in Vancouver??

We just had our first legitimate post-season run in almost 12 years. Let's not act like we're a much better franchise than the Nucks.
If the Rangers were smart, they'd send Mark Messier to meet Schultz. Mess has played for all of 3 of the Canucks, Oilers and Rangers. If anyone understands the mindset of a kid who may want to stay near his home in western canada - it's Slats.

I totally agree. I don't think people realize how high Erixon's hockey IQ is.
Hoping to see a Erixon-McIlrath pairing in Hartford
erixon is going to play for the rangers this season. management would be disappointed in him if he wasn't ready to start with the team right out of camp.
Any idea who we're sending over? Hopefully McDonagh and Stepan can make it out there.
I don't think I would do that if I were the Rangers.
Make the presentation about Schultz and how he can help the Rangers.
Schultz knows who is on the team, no need to shove it down his throat by bringing either guy to the presentation.
Rangers to Schultz:
"Here's what we need (itemized listing) to help improve our scoring issues and get us over the hump."
"Here's what you provide with your skillset (identical itemized listing)"
NHL Money will be the same no matter where you go, however, the media spot light in NY for a winning franchise shines brighter than anywhere else thus opening up greater and more lucrative opportunities outside of the game.
The 2nd pairing spot and 20+ minutes a night are there for the taking.
And we are just beginning the climb up the mountain to contendership. The ECF was nice, but a year or two early. Schultz presence along with a nice UFA LW signing and boost that climb a great deal.
the Rangers need two things this summer. What Schultz provides and a scoring winger. THATS IT
If he's smart and he wants to win now, he signs with the Rangers.

they need ot stop trying to shove guys like Messier down players throats and let that meeting take place after he signs.
Make this about Hockey and what we need and what we can offer him in terms of the game and what we believe he can offer us in terms of the game.
These kids aren't dumb. They know who is with the brass for each team.
Lets not try to dumb the kid down and convince him to sign for any other reason than hockey reasons.

After seeing all of the Erixon posts I was going to write the exact same thing. Say what you will about his stature, but he sees the ice very well, IMO. Smart hockey player who uses solid positioning and his hockey intelligence to play defense.
Even if he doesn't bulk up, I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the roster opening night. While size is useful for all players, I don't feel it is an absolute necessity for him to start playing in the NHL considering his style of play.
I know Schultz is from BC, is he a Canucks fan? Because if he grew up a 'Nucks fan in the late 90's, there is a chance he doesn't care much for Messier. There are not too many Vancouver fans that remember Mark fondly.

No offense, but all that stuff about "NY spotlight" and "lucrative opportunites" to make more money off of that spotlight doesn't exactly smack of being strictly "hockey" reasons.

did you seriously just post that?
any kid growing up as a hockey player would be absolutely star struck meeting mark messier its an honor. jesus
