I like Prust, but honesty, I expected to see more during the playoffs. That would have been the time to make a case for a hefty raise by stepping up and covering for guys who also struggled to contribute for whatever reason. I don't expect much in terms of offense, but I expected more of the "timely" goals, like the one in game 5 against NJD. 3G, 2A for the months of March, April and May combined simply does not earn you a $2M/year contract regardless of your role.

I also reject the notion that he's a critical piece of the PK. It lives and dies with Callahan and the defensemen. Stepan spent more time killing penalites in the postseason than Prust did. Boyle spent more time on the PK too despite missing 3 games with a concussion.

We're fine on the PK without Prust. Boyle, Stepan, Callahan and Dubinsky do it well. We could still re-sign Fedotenko if we're uncomfortable with that forward rotation but I'd rather not go down that road again

I'm going to claim ignorance here but I only saw one tweet. Is there another one I'm missing because I don't have a problem with the tweet I saw about Ranger management loving him as much as the fans. He's a UFA who's looking out for himself. I think he would like to stay a Ranger BUT make as much money possible for him. This might be his last big payday.

torn tendon in finger

i really can't comprehend how a select few people can't comprehend that he was playing with a torn tendon in his finger since january-- and still managed to drop the gloves a few times.

i can't even see cally as our best pk guy... boyle easily trumps him on the pk. feds was great, too... anisimov and stepan were huge parts. prust as well. cally's good and all, but lives and dies? no way.

for the freaking 150th time... sather complained about prust's negotiations to the media before prust said a word. big freaking deal. so he said he didn't like the management on twitter. good for him. held his ground. guy shows he has a spine every night he's on the ice. he does it once off the ice and you guys get mad about it?

I guess I would have had less of an issue if he had tweeted that after he signed somewhere.

That tweet was basically the end of his Rangers career. They won't look highly on that, especially Sather.

A. His asking price is unreasonable

B. His actions make him look bad to fans and management.

A. his SUPPOSED asking price is unreasonable BUT sather SUPPOSEDLY offered him 1.8... every player in the league haggles. prust highballs at 2.2, sather lowballs at 1.8, they look for a middle ground of 2. apparently that didn't happen. instead sather went and told the media that he was not signing prust-- basically hurting prust's options in the free market.

B. nothing he did made him look bad to fans. what exactly didn't you like? basically he said, 'thanks guys, but apparently i'm out of here because management does not want me back. was great to play for new york. great fans and team'

like are you guys seriously mad about his tweet? i really don't understand that at all. sather tells the media that he will not sign prust back. prust says thanks for the time in nyr and basically tells the management that he's done negotiating. sather started the hostile comments.

edit: and obviously his actions look bad to the management. that was kind of his point.

That's a valid comment but technically as a UFA, he doesn't belong to anyone.

Are you saying that's rationale for almost tripling his salary?

I'm not trying to take anything away from Prust. THIS team needs to be more fiscally responsible when it comes to the contracts they hand out for these bottom half roles.

With Matt Bradley waived today, will he be Brandon Prusts' 4th line replacement?

Maybe Darche from the Habs...he turned down 575,000 on a 2 way deal to explore the market . BTW folks...Calgary is one of the fastest growing cities in NA . It is the place to be with the oil boom and all . LOL...might not be that great for a Pro Athlete...but for anybody else it is happening place ! It definitely is not the middle of nowhere .

I would not want Darche...but with Sather who knows .

i have absolutely no idea how you would come to that conclusion. nothing i said had anything at all to do with salary. you commented on his playoff performance. his playoff performance -- like gaborik's had a pretty solid excuse.

tell me you're not saying that he underperformed in the playoffs. you said it clear as day.

is 2.2 or w/e ALLEGED(once again for on the off-chance that you missed the concept-- the price was not confirmed to be 2.2... that's the speculation) price that he was asking overpaying? sure as hell. is 1.8m overpaying? more than likely... but that is only a rumor.

what is not a rumor is that sather said he was not signing prust. prust tweeted in response to sather's comments... immature? sure, but he was not the one that started it... people make it sound like prust just went out of his way to start ww3 with the management.

i don't mind people being mad that prust may have asked for too much money or that people are glad we didn't overpay for him. i'm glad too.

what bothers me is the fact that people blame prust for tweeting a response to our gm who CLEAR AS DAY told a reporter that he was not planning on resigning prust(if i had to guess before he actually told prust) and fail to acknowledge that sather said something he shouldn't have... i also find it completely baffling that people blame him for a shoddy playoff performance despite playing with a torn tendon in his finger.

/endrant... hopefully you can at least see the logic here. i'm sure some of you may not like the tweet, but i hope you have at least an equal amount of disgust for sather... i mean sather certainly hurt prust's chances in the market.

I fail to see how Arnott makes this team better.

Melrose is absolutely right. Callahan is the most important penalty killer on the team, and he's the top defensive forward on the team. Boyle isn't in his league, and Prust isn't even a particularly good defensive forward. He's just physical and he hustles.

Prust was terrible in the playoffs. I fully admit that I soured on him a bit.

I do too I think he's just a solid 3rd line center, but who else could we realistically get from the FA market that makes this team better?

but the pk would still be great without cally.. boyle def doesn't 'trump' him... misspoke there , but i don't think he's that far off considering he can win faceoffs and has the size.
