RDS is in denial
He's technically still a Hab for a few more days.

Goodbye Darche!

Enjoy your two way contract elsewhere.

Best of luck to Darchey in the future. The guy was solid in front of the other teams net. He had some great tip-ins last year - no denying that.

I think they just made him a lowball offer out of respect, but they seem to want to check out a few guys on the UFA market. I think Darche may still end up being a plan B or C if they don't or can't(at a reasonable price) get the UFA's they want.

lol , nope.Try plan Z.

Darche turned them down , he is gone ,page turned.Too easy to find something better....

The NHL has a min salary, so any low ball is not much lower than his 700k.
What they gave him is a choice to play a different role , he turned it down .

If the Habs really wanted him , there would be a one way deal offered like White.
Bergevin wasn't here to see much of Darche, BUT Mike Therrien watched a lot of Habs hockey ...

What's this 'theory' that the Habs low-balled him?

He had a pretty brutal year last year, missed 20 games because of a concussion and is 36yrs old and doesn't even have a full season under his belt with the Habs.

What was he expecting? The Habs generously rewarded him last year with a one way contract after he had a solid season and he predictably couldn't follow it up.

The Habs offered him exactly what they should have...a two way deal.

"Thanks to all #Habs fans for your support and passion. Best in the NHL!!"," said Darche on his twitter account Wednesday.

Why not thank management for actually giving you a chance to play in the NHL? Nothing against the guy he gave it 100% all the time but I won't miss seeing him in the lineup, much rather have a guy like Staubitz as our 13th/14th forward than him.

The fact that he turned down an offer is shocking to me. I don't know if he'll find another one. Anyways, RDS won't care in 4 days when Bergevin signs Latendresse.

I think technically speaking, offering him a 2-way deal was the "lowball", not the monetary value. Pretty clear that Darche is more interested than a 1-way (or at least waiting to see if he can get one on July 1) than any dollar figure since, like you said, he's not going to get much more than the minimum or his previous contract. More power to him.

14 pages about Mathieu Darche possibly leaving... hopefully we'll have better to talk about in a few years.

My prediction: No one will sign him, then the later part of the summer he will come back and sign a 2 way contract with the habs. This after MB fills out the roster and we get him for Hamilton / depth for injury replacement. Book it!

I can't really see a scenario where Darche doesn't end up in Europe. If he wants to get paid, that's the only place he'll find the money.

This is the most likely scenario and NO Darche is not the Habs plan B or C

He'll find an NHL job, he is a useful NHL player...people on here wayyy overplay the "he's a local" thing. It's not like gainey and Gauthier went out of their way to add or keep Quebec players so he earned his way.

He was part of the #2 PK in the NHL and went 12-14-26 in 59 games last year with 3rd or 4th line minutes.

He would actually fit well on a stacked team needing some depth. I could see the Flyers or the Bruins giving him a contract.

And I like reading UniverStalinGraduate, he's somehow managing to make sense unlike a good bunch. Read : Habaneros.
Darche is the symbol of Martin's defensive style. Prefering this to grit. And if Pyatt was still here, he would be another poster child. Although unlike Darche, Pyatt never gave those long boring interviews. Most anglos cannot comprehend how painful it was to watch all those Darche post-game interviews. And they were always going for the same guy because he was one of the few french. I won't miss that.

Name the last 4th liner in Montreal to do tv commercials ,and not just for Habs, for a big Tire company in french.

You guaranteeing he will be in NHL , don't bank the farm.

Maybe Gainey takes him in Dallas , who knows eh ...
