Trade Rumors and Free Agent TalkTrade rumors, transactions, and free agent talk. Rumors must contain the word RUMOR in post title. Proposals must contain the word PROPOSAL in post title.
I'm sure there is a perfect trade proposal that all parties would agree on buried somewhere in the previous 16,000 posts. Whoever finds it gets an automatic nomination for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy next season.
Mod Edit - Remember folks - stay civil. No warnings needed as we have about 30+ in the other threads.
I fig value wise Grabs+Gardiner+Colbourne or Kadri+2013 1st(gotta make it top 5 protected) for Lou+Kessler is a bit of an over payment for Lou and Kessler but Kessler can be that #1 C needed and Lou the goalie needed. Plus Grabovski isn't that much of a downgrade that getting Kadri+2013 1st makes it great for the future plus having Gardiner on the back end will make the Nucks D able to put up points no matter what pair is on the ice. As a Leaf fan the only way I would even consider it is if Kessler is 100% and not a risk. If this trade were to happen and Kessler is 1 or 2 injuries away from retirement and Lou can't handle the media in Tor it could destroy the team. The risk is enormous for the present and especially the future. As far as for the Nucks go it has way less risk in that Grabovski is a durable 2 way C who can put up 50+ on a bad team so with good wingers I expect 65. Also Kadri has the raw skill to be a tougher Ribero and if the trade blows up for the Leafs that 2013 1st could be good but not top 5 due to it being protected. When you factor in the fact that Schultz would go to Van in a heartbeat if he knew Gardiner was going there then this trade becomes even more lopsided.

So...if we make this horrid deal, what do we do until Kesler is ready in NOVEMBER?!~?!
He wants to go to Florida, I don't think Florida necessarily wants him. They have Markstrom, and even if they had Lou I don't think they'd be able to win it all until Huberdeau has had a few years in the NHL as the #1 center.
He put himself in a bad position by not wanting to go to Toronto or Chicago. If you don't want the limelight, maybe being a professional athelete isn't for you, sure is a nice paycheck though.
I've seen proposals of 4-5 pcs including 2 high picks and a couple of high (for the Leafs) prospects in exchange for Luongo. Thats overpayment.
Sure is -To me Gardiner + pick wasn't an overpayment but I'd bet it was to you.
The deal you & Vanwest agreed to is an underpayment imo.
The deal whatever it is has to address some need of the Canucks. The leafs would receive an upgrade in goal(is anyone denying that?)What could the leafs give to address these needs RHD/top6 fwd(no tweeners)-that's what Vancouver needs imo.
-I've looked at alot of trade threads recently & they almost all boil down to this -
Team A has depth at a postion (or need to move player) team B has hole at said position & fans offer overpaid player(they don't want)+tweener(they don't want)+
2nd or third tier prospect or swap picks. One team improves & the other gets hosed.
Now I realise that this a cap league & financial considerations will affect any deal but on both sides there has to be at least one asset that improves each team or why make a deal in the first place.

To the 1st bolded, thankfully Burke disagreed.
To the 2nd bolded, do all those trade threads deal with a limited market, player with a NTC, player who is 33 on a long term deal, player who's team really wants to deal him. Each and every 1 of these things effect value.

No but that is pretty specific. Still IMO value is a prospect, a roster player/capdump and a draft pick, not a swap of firsts, if the dump is Lambardi, the prospect or the pick better be good.
You get a full year to negotiate before he becomes a free agent and like I said you keep the offer low so the compensation isnt that bad. Teams have given up much worse than a couple picks for guys who dont work out or who flee as free agents.
If the offer is that low, Vancouver matches, Schneider stays where he is another year and ends up at the same place (UFA) at the end. And he only has to move to a new city and go to all that trouble once if he signs elsewhere after that year.
I don't know, seems like an awful lot of trouble and work for nothing.

Lombardi has 1 year at 3.5 (i believe), not exactly crippling for a servicable player who can play both wing and center.
