Yeah I was sort of thinking the same thing. Honestly, I'd probably rate them about equal. However, Seto takes assets and hasn't be reported available. If reasonably priced, I'd take Hudler for free than give up one of our top d prospects+ for Seto.

This can't be more true. Sid could leave upwards of $5m/year on the table for the good of the team. AND this caps what Malkin will ask for next year too! Shero needs to reward the kid with a shiny new winger on Sunday now!

Skating is pretty friggin' important especially in our system. Creating separation from defenders and having the goal scoring instincts to finish plays is exactly what we want with Sid. I'd also say Seto is far more physical and has upside to play in all situations. Hudler is mostly a finished product as a defensive liability and not a great board player.

Seto over Hudler easily.

Shero got a nice write-up in the Grantland power rankings.

Quote:
My vote goes to Penguins’ GM Ray Shero, because he does not screw around.

Scott Howson has been trying to trade Rick Nash for four months and has made zero progress, probably because he can’t figure out which side of the phone to talk into. Mike Gillis has to trade Roberto Luongo and everyone knows it, but he still apparently intends to annoy everyone by taking all summer to get a deal done.

Not Ray Shero. When word broke that Penguins’ center Jordan Staal had turned down a 10-year contract offer and expressed a preference to be moved, it took Shero a whole day to get a blockbuster deal done with Carolina. No bluffing. No posturing. Give me your offer, shake my hand and get the hell out of my office.

Oh, and he had the trade announced in the middle of Staal’s wedding. Ray Shero is a boss.

Setoguchi is 25 about to be 26 midway through the season. He's pretty close to being a finished product as well.

Hudler and Setoguchi are remarkably similar in the regard that they require great players next to them to be super effective. Hudler's 50 points this year (and in my opinion Filppula's big year as well) had a lot to do with playing next to Zetterberg most of the season at ES. Setoguchi's big season with Thornton is well documented as well. Personally, I think I'd take Hudler just because he's proven that he is capable of multiple 50 point seasons. Setoguchi hasn't been able to break 41 points in the last 3 years, plus he's missed at least 10 games in each of those seasons.

Well, here's the rest of my 'dear lord, please' plan:

1. Sign Parise and Suter for our remaining cap space max.
2. Move TK and Martin for a pick, freeing up 7M.
3. Set aside 2.25M for a 4th line winger, Despres, and Bortuzzo.
4. Trade Kunitz and Orpik for Kulemin and Gunnarrson (and 3.5M in cap space).
5. Resign Matt Niskanen for 2.25M.

All said and done, the Pens would have about 6M left. Shane Doan and some money left for the deadline for a defenseman anyone?

Parise-Sid-Doan
Kulemin-Geno-Neal
Cooke-Sutter-Dupuis
SIGNEE-Vitale-Adams
Jeffrey

Suter-Letang
Gunnarrson-Niskanen
Despres-Engo
Bortuzzo

Here's my 'o'k, that works too' plan:

1. Sign Parise and Suter for our remaining cap space max.
2. Move Tangradi, TK, and Martin for Setoguchi (saves 4M in space).
3. Sign a 4th line winger and slot Despres and Bortuzzo for 2.25M. You've got 1.75M left for one defenseman. I think then you go with one of the kids and save 750K for the deadline.

Parise-Sid-Seto
Kunitz-Geno-Neal
Cooke-Sutter-Duper
SIGNEE-Vitale-Adams
Jeffrey

Suter-Letang
Orpik-?????
Despres-Engo
Bortuzzo

O'k, that said, here's what I think happens . . . Take out option number four, and the Pens resign Niskanen and a Sullivan type for the top nine. Still a sweet team . . .

Again, no, not really at all but okay. He's faster and that's it. A lot of guys are fast, that's not the be all end all. Screw our system while I'm at it. The more talent that fills our roster the more we get away from that "grind these *****es down" nonsense and play more to our strengths which is simply being more talented than the other team. Hudler knows how to play with creative players. He's one himself. If you'd rather have straight line Setoguchi that's your business but it's laughable you think Setoguchi is so much better. He's just not.

Thank you! All these trade TK and and trade such and such mess .... What part of Minnesota needs SETO MORE than we do don't y'all understand. Same thing with the Bobby Ryan stuff ... you really think TK or Martin is going to make someone give up that kind of player? And the Kulemin train sailed when Jordan left.

Focus on Sunday because all this trading crap ain't happening people.

we still have tradeable assets. Seto just isn't on the block.

I love that you quoted Exile with that and said it like you were on the same side I think he may disagree that we can't make any big trades

After that Semin discussion, I'm used to being on the other side of the masses. Of course we have tradeable assets, but we have to look and see why those other teams would want our assets ... just that blind "xxx will take TK and Martin for their top six or top four stuff" just makes no damn sense.

I have no doubt that a guy like Martin could be moved, but not for the stuff some are asking for in here at all.

Yeah there is a big difference between Seto & say some one like Ryan besides the skill level. Ryan has been rumored to be on the block several times by several different sources so it's safe to assume he is on the block for the right price. Same with Yandle & Nash. Seto though I haven't heard anything about him. In fact letting Lantedresse go makes it really look like they have no intention of trading him at all.

I'm talking about moving future assets & I don't care if it's overpayment if it brings in a guy like Ryan how is 25 and impact player. I'm talking Morrow, Despres, Maata, Harrington, Bennett... We have some assets & some cap room. They may not want those kind of assets but that we have no way of knowing but if they are the block I hope & think Shero might go for it.

Apparently today is re-sign day, as the CBJ have re-signed Nikita Nikitin who not only has an awesome hockey name but also has a large amount of potential.

#CBJ D Nikitin Nikitin has signed a two-year, $4.3 million contract. Will get $1.8 million this season, $2.5 million in 2013-14
2.15 cap hit, not bad at all, tbqh.

Maybe teams think if they come out & make a statement about taking care of their players it might sway free agents their way. Just a thought.
