exactly... Carle wanting to test the waters, should raise flags for Homer..

dont leave any chance for him to come back and leave the team without a roster spot filled..

nows the time to cut the cord and move the hell on..

That's why you only give him a 2-year deal. Also, there's been no significant drop-off in Salo's play despite his advanced age.

He was still giving Vancouver 20 minutes a game last season; I don't see why giving him a one year deal would be so bad. He's a right handed shot we could use on the powerplay, and he adds more beef on the backend. Him and Mez would make a great third pairing.

Salo has been injury-prone so a one year is the most risk you can take. You don't want another 35+ contract hanging over the team even if get to LTIR him. One year at a time.

I agree with everyone saying no to Salo. He is old and injured frequently anymore.

Looks like Matt Carle really is headed to free agency. I have no idea who we are planning on targeting on July 1st. Maybe we don't even add a defender? Who freaking knows anymore.

Kimmo-
Grossmann-Coburn
Schenn-Meszaros

We have one spot left, hopefully that spot does not go to Gus or MAB(just my opinion). I'm worried about the prices these FA's are going to be getting with the new cap now.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Also on IT: @Real_ESPNLeBrun reports PHI dman Matt Carle likely to go UFA on July 1.

Don't know if this has been reported. With Gill locked up I wonder who the flyers will be targeting. I was hoping for Garrison but he'll most likely get an outrageous contract like Carle and wideman. At this point I think they'll just go with one of Gus or MAB which kinda sucks. If there is an injury the flyers d will be just as bad as last years. With kimmo getting up there in age and his history of back problems, grossmann's knee problems and Mez coming off back surgery it actually seems likely that there will be and injury.

I am disappointed Gill signed.

W can always sign Jeff Finger!

I guess I hope for someone like Allen, or maybe Salvador or Eaton if they haven't been signed yet.

What about Souray?

That was said by Carle's agent. Peace out Carle. Go get 6 mil+ from someone else.

i would throw 6 million at weber rather than a small defender, they need another big defender anyway.

same here, they need more slap shots from the back end.

I know you are just trolling, but I want to see the reponse anyway

Defenders:

Coburn 6'5''
Grossmann 6'4''
Lilja 6'3''
Meszaros 6'2''
Schenn 6'2''
*Carle 6'0''
Timonen 5'10''

Like I said, I know you are trolling, but why do you want a team of all huge defenders?

Just say no to Bryan Allen. His knees are shot and he's about as mobile as a filing cabinet. He's nothing more than a bottom pairing defenseman at this point and he's going to look to get paid one last time. Let someone else sign Hatcher-lite.

He's probably freaking because he told everyone Carle would sign some bargain contract.

Looking forward to seeing Flyersguru come back in with his 100% CONFIRMED on the low cost Carle deal. Obviously I guess it COULD happen, but starting to think no.

Didn't guru say both Carle and Jagr were signed and it would be announced July 1?

I'd only give him 1, just in case.

Sounds like Carle's agent either re-considered or there really was never a deal. I'm sure they saw Wideman's deal and said 'wait a second.'

As I understand it, once the cap number is agreed upon/announced, tagging rules become irrelevant. So, if they had a deal, they didn't need to keep waiting. That's what I had figured would happen, but it hasn't. Holmgren said he thought he would get below market-value, that won't happen if he gets to Sunday, so he either needs to get it done or enact the backup plan. TSN has been able to get these things right going the other direction in the past.

Holmgren does have backup plans, right?

Functionally, Schenn is the replacement.

Coburn-Grossman
Timonen-Schenn
Mez-MAB / Gus
Lilja

There's really nothing wrong with that--or at least nothing that Matt Carle would fix.

Our defensive issues are as much about system as personnel, IMO.
