Malik out with an 'upper body injury'

The Rangers called up 21-year-old defenseman David Liffiton from Hartford of the AHL.

I thought Liffiton was pretty iffy tonight. He made some bad reads tonight and left people open temporarily (and that's all it takes). Can't say he was as good as Pock.

And then he was benched in the 3rd period.

Yea Liffiton was pretty bad. But that was pretty much expected since hes not even that good in the AHL yet. Guess they had to call someone up though with Maliks injury (just be thankful it wasnt Purinton).

We could see Staal with the Rangers on Thursday, his Junior playoffs ended today. Wouldnt mind him in the lineup vs the Pens...against philly or sens....eh..maybe not them just yet.

Suffered a season ending injury a long time ago. Maybe before X-mas.

I thought Liffiton overcame a rough start and looked ok through the 2nd. I wouldn't rule out giving him another look once the seedings are set.

I agree. He started out slowly, but then improved as the game went along. He made nice, simply plays. As poor as his start was, I am more comfortable with his game in his own end when compared to Ozolinsh.

Don't forget that this guy is really young. He was the 2nd youngest player in the AHL last season. Wait till hes 23-24 like Pock is, I think you'll see a much better dman.

I was under the impression Baranka was higher up in the depth chart. Is he hurt or something, cuz I was really looking forward to seeing what he can do...

From a casual observers standpoint (mine), Pock is looking better and better every game. Some of the rushes and passes he makes strike me as better than Ozo's...which is disturbing since he's supposed to be a bonafide Offensive d-man.

Liffiton looked very nervous in the first, wasn't making good passes, wasn't clearing the puck, but what can you expect from the kid?
