The Russia bias on HFBoards is hilarious. It's like the Cold War around here.

I'd love if the Rangers sign him to a 3 year deal.

No the Cold War was much nicer to the Russians.

Any team that signs Semin will get the best 2nd line winger available cause im assuming the team that gets him will be a deeper team.

Haha, and Parise is happy in NJ, and Richards was happy in Dallas, and so it goes. Unless that agent actually works for the Penguins, he is going to squeeze every last dollar out of Malkin's next contract. Crosby is a special case, he is looking beyond his career - legacy. Malkin has won his Cup, won his Hart, and wants to be considered the best player in the world - that's hard when people don't consider you the best player on your team.

There's no bias on Russians.

There's just as bias on players who're inconsistent with their effort and have a tendency to disappear in the playoffs.

I did not say it had anything to do with him being Russian.

I understand people not liking the Russian bias. Yes, it exists and should not (other than maybe factoring in the attraction of the KHL when it comes to drafting a player). But the opposite is also true. I feel like whenever I critique someone like Semin, a rash of posters jump on me due to a perceived Russian bias. I level the same accusations at Patrick Marleau, but those slide along fine. When it is Semin? "Stop being biased against Russians!!"

I wouldn't be surprised if Semin trolls hfboards by outscoring Parise next season.

I don't know what motivates him besides money.

I think Semin might be the most misrepresented player on this entire website. That's ok though any team that gets him will enjoy his services.

I think Semin to Detroit is a great fit for everbody involved.

Detroit gets a very talented scoring winger who will fit in well with their stable of european players, especially Dats.

Semin will have a "role model" in Datsyuk, one of the best defense players in the game. He'll play under a coach whose demand to adhere to the system and stress on two way play is unparalleled. He's also a hard ass who won't let Semin get away with what Boudreau would.

If Dats could rub off on Alex, he could very well develop into a true elite player.

The stuff about him being money hungry and alluding to the fact that he'll bolt to Russia if management and him don't see eye-to-eye is unfounded. There's definitely bias on these boards when it comes to Russian players.

There are floaters from all countries, I won't deny that.

I think most Caps fans who ARE a fan of Semin's game (while still acknowledging his flaws) think that Detroit would be a perfect fit for him. He'd be getting the kind of top-line minutes (alongside legitimate top-six talent) he deserves on a consistant basis for the first time in several years.

It's generally agreed that, playing along Datsyuk, Semin could be the perennial 35-40 goal guy he should have been for the Caps. Sure, he's "inconsistant," but how much of that has to do with the fact that he hasn't consistently played with a legit second-line center since the Caps had a past-his-prime Fedorov? I mean, yeah, dude is kind of an enigma and a headcase, to be sure, but he's also been bounced around positionally (2LW, 2RW, 1RW, 2RW and back again), mishandled, forced to play alongside a forever rotating cast of lesser talent, then expected to produce.

Of course, when the team finally picks up a real second-line center in Ribiero, they let Semin go. It's a shame. Flaws aside, give him real minutes with real talent on a consistent basis, and he's going to produce the numbers you expect of him. The Caps haven't given him that situation in a while.

As much as I would hate it as a caps fan, I would love to see Semin and Crosby or Semin and Malkin together. Then he puts up 50 goals and just shuts everyone up. That would be fun to see.

I could seriously see Semin end up in Pittsburgh, if not Detroit. Maybe Colorado as a dark horse? I hope GMGM manages to get something for his rights.

Semin and Dats were magical together in the WHC. I hate to see Semin and Ovie broken up, but ah well.

"I'd take Semin for 3 years @ 6mil". If that's what Semin wanted, he would of been resigned. Semin is looking for 7mil for 5-7 years and the caps aren't willing to pay that.

If he was looking for 6mil over 4 years, I'm sure he would of been resigned by now. My guess is, he signs for 7mil@5 years somewhere, or gives the caps a chance to match the best offer if no one is willing to give him the contract his agent wants for him.

I don't think anyone questions Semin's ability. They question his character issues sometimes. It's pretty well documented. A lot of clubs will gauge that for themselves and decide to take the talent.

Personally, I haven't seen the character issues but I have seen a few lazy plays on the ice. I also saw a very dominant and hungry player in the postseason.

I think if he doesn't get the long term deal he wants he might very well say F U to the NHL and go troll KHL for large wads of short-term cash.

I am a big Semin fan but he will never be a perennial anything. He's inconsistent and he always will be. I would still like to have him back on the Caps.
