It's not the point I was asking what you thought of Gardiner for nash or ryan as part of a deal-not that toronto needs either.
The difference between Nash/Ryan & Luongo is that toronto needs to upgrade in goal.

to the bolded part
I literally laughed out loud when you refered to Lombardi as serviceable.I would rather take Santorelli off waivers than have Lombardi anywhere on the Canucks unless he was part of trade where the Canucks got one of those other pieces they actually need.
Ok...just figured you might need help at center with Kesler gone till November.

The original reporter is still maintaining its true. I doubt it but it hasn't been "proven" to be a lie.

It wouldn't surprise me if it were true. It makes sense that he would try to encourage a trade to Florida first, but I think he would accept a trade to any of the 3 interested teams if Gillis said "this is the best deal we could get". I think he does want to do what's best for the team.

We'll just promote from within and give our young guns a chance to show what they can do. We never play much above .500 in October anyway, and nobody views those as must-win games.

My answer is no. NOT because Gardiner is "better" than either of those 2, but with Nash his contract and the cost to get him. With Ryan, we are stacked at wing right now. It doesn't matter what you feel is "value". Bottom line is IF a deal gets done it isn't 100% about what the Canucks need. It's about what other GM's are willing to pay. Gillis has said hell run with the 2 goalies he has..great. I think you and i both know thats highly unlikely.

Bottom line is, the deal will ultimately be two gm's meeting in the middle.

Not 100% one way or the other.

Gillis, however, could go late into the summer or even into next season with both...

Realistically, any potential trading partners could go into next season without a trade, too. I don't think there's anywhere near as much pressure on any party to get a deal done as folks round these parts say/wish there was.

A good summary, IMO. Too much posturing on both sides about how they have the other over the barrell.

But he doesn't help us at all. With Upshall he does fill a need. Not trying to say Lambardi can't play just we already have better options. Options that may not be better, but are at the very least the same. Actually I think I would run with either Manny or Max first.

If it was a matter of, say, a Pahlsson style return (Tochkin and a 4th for example) I'd be fine with picking up Lombardi for a fill in for Kesler. He will either play his way on or play his way off the team doing 2/3 duty with Schroeder, and we can either waive him or move him over to wing.

Heck, i'll do Connolly or Armstrong. The point is, you can't fit 5.3 in if salary doesn't go back.

Doesn't seem to be the smart thing to do. Other teams need to make a goaltending decision one way or the other well before the start of the season.

I gotta go with #1. It has sustained the longest. Ryan's was broken into 2 parts (Deadline and now) and Schultz?? Come on..not even double digit yet.

For who? Both sides?

There is potential for teams with poor goaltending trying quick fixes that wont be working....brings the demand back up, no?

Teams are unlikely to panic because their team had a slow start but what if there is only one team and Gillis has no market other than that? Kind of takes the luster off of his strategy of waiting teams out.

To add a little more, the main board has said Bernier is gonna get moved, NJ,TOR and CHI in the mix. Getting interesting.

Just out of curiousity would you trade Gardiner for Bernier?

It will be interesting to see where he goes.

Personally I think Bernier is vastly overrated, smaller goaltender who managed a 0.906 sv% on one of the most defensively sound teams in the league...

Not an upgrade on Reimer or Crawford imo, but probably can be had for much cheaper than Luongo.
