Not sure if thats true, he should be worth a bit more then that. Remember last summer Avs spent 2 firsts for a goalie with not that much more potential. I could see the Leafs trading a good prospect or 1st for him, or maybe Edmonton would be a real good fit. Might be able to get something like Paajarvi for him.
Avs traded a 1st and 2nd
And Varlamov had better stats (On worse defensive team) in his time in Was + playoff exerience when they traded for him
Winnipeg doesn't need Bernier. They have Pavelec locked up for 5 yrs and just traded for Jonas Gustavsson, who still can become a good goalie.
You guys are crazy if you think we could use Bernier to acquire Kane. First off, Kane has major character issues. Second off, isn't he a RW? If we could move Bernier + Williams I'd do it but otherwise we don't have room on the wing for him unless Carts can play LW (not sure if he can/does or not). Third, would Chicago REALLY want to trade him? And last but not least the realistic asking price would be astronomical.

If you look at the entire organization, we're stacked at center and wing at the NHL level, assuming we sign Penner...both in the top and bottom six. We also have AHL guys like Cliche to come in to sub the bottom six.
We have PMDs waiting in Muzzin, Hickey and others. Even if Doughty goes down, we can replace him for a while with Mitchell, Voynov or AMart while having the "in waiting guy replace the guy who moved up.
And backup goalies too in Jones and Zatkoff who are probably ready now.
What we don't have is Teubert, the guy who replaces Greene's role as an elite crease clearer who's tough and plays a shutdown role.
We should either get a 1st rounder for next year or a good, tough defenseman. Of course if we somehow manage to sign Suter, we will have no holes for the 2014 season...either of them, lol.

Muzzin isn't really a PMD. I see him more as a Willie Mitchell lite. Good defensively, physical but not Greene physical, and a great shot. I'd like to see him replace Scuds next year.
While I do think it's time for Bernier to take the #1 reigns on another team, I don't see DL trading him just yet. If he doesn't get good/fair offers then I see him hanging onto him for another year.
I do believe that Bernier will be a good number one goalie, so once the time comes, I hope DL ships him east.
Can't blame Bernier. He's young and wants to play. Obviously it won't happen here on any consistent basis.
Not that many teams that need a goalie. I would think a pick or two coming back. Maybe try to get a 1st rounder in 2013 to replace the pick lost in the Carter deal.
To Kings
Hawks 1st in 2013
Low level pick from Devils
Kings get 1st
Hawks get young goalie (Also clear a little cap)
Craw serves as #2 for Marty B this upcoming year and moves into #1 role in 2013. Is UFA after 2013 season so if it doesn't work out Devils future in net is either ready or they can hit the market (FA or Trade) to get a #1
There is nothing inherently wrong or disruptive asking for a trade. It is all about how you do you. And he wants to be a number one and everybody knows it. So if he asked when it looked like he was not going to get any real chance that is not disruptive. He didn't go all over saying he wanted out he went to mgmt. And if the response was we need to wait until we either get Quick signed or not. That is done so if he came and reminded them of what was said that is also not disruptive.
I would rather keep him around just because the value of having that good of a back up but that is not really fair to him and he has earned his shot.
Bernier deserves a chance to start in the NHL. He has been a good soldier, never caused any problems even though he knows he could have started on a decent amount of teams this season.
Quick is signed long term, makes no sense to keep him here and hold him back. Honor his request and wish him well.
