He wasn't waiving his no trade unless he got one.

I just don't understand what the Dbacks were thinking. Utley alone is probably better than the 4 the Sox gave up. If a player that you want to deal will only accept a trade to 3 teams, why trade w/ the one that has the weakest prospects.

Don't know, don't care. All I know is that the Yankees' primary rival just got considerably deadlier. Now if only Pettite signs Houston's contract offer ...

Pettite will be a Yankee. Houston can't afford Pettite.

Houston has offered him a three year contract. Whether or not they can afford him will depend entirely on Pettite.

It's encouraging that they asked Pettite to come to them for a last bid. At the least it shows they're willing to compete with Steinbrenner.
