I wouldn't say he sucks, but whoever gets him is gonna overpay big time.

I'm sure he feels like he owes the organization one and hopefully comes in with a fire in his belly to make it up to everyone.

Even if he was, the goal is to be positive in the goal differential department and Carle does that very well.

Also, if you can't directly fix speed with speed, you can indirectly fix it with faster puck movement. Carle's stretch passes are one of the best in the league (Pronger-lite)

It would be nice to have one of those players on the left side. The problem is that I don't think that we have the ideal partner for him unless it is Burns but then that sort of messes over Vlasic.

Fear The Fin has a good article on Alexander Semin:

Vlasic - Burns
Carle - Stuart
Braun - Demers

is a pretty good core, even without Boyle.

I think you'd run into a worse problem if you replace Boyle with Suter (not that I wouldn't do it).

Suter - Burns
Vlasic - Stuart (no puck movement)
Braun - Demers

You can fix that by swapping Demers and Stuart, but you don't know how well Demers will do next season, and you're then spending 3.6 million for a 3rd pairing defenseman.

Sigh...

I hate this time of year because I get so jealous of other teams and their constantly breaking news. Damn our tight-lipped, never-sinking ship!

although the chance of DW signing him is zero, I'd much rather have him than Nash... what the hell, give Semin $7.8 million and see if detroit tops it

unfortunately, he'll probably sign with Detroit along with Parise and Suter, and we'll go winless against Detroit year after year like the good old days

Anyone else starting to like Luongo a little more now that he's almost certain to not be a Canuck soon?

If he hadn't played the frenchman in Ricky Bobby's movie, I might like him more but he's still a prima donna to me. lol

I wonder if DW would have done the Crosby deal or the Quick deal. I doubt it. (I'm honestly that down on the guy right now)

Seeing how he was 7th amongst Flyer defenseman in plus-minus, I submit he does not.

"Meanwhile, a second line of Semin, Logan Couture and Martin Havlat would be dynamic and capable of not only creating offense in a multitude of ways but playing a dangerous possession game to ensure the puck seldom leaves the offensive zone." This stuck out for me.

A bit disingenuous, don't you think? You're throwing in Gustafsson, Lilja, and Grossmann who didn't play anywhere near the amount that Carle did...let alone the type of minutes that he did...and you're limiting it to just this past year. You don't like Carle, that's fine. I get it but this simplistic and inaccurate approach to proving it is not going to get you very far.

It's because he didn't have Pronger playing with him. Call me crazy, I don't think Pronger would be a Shark to save his butt over and over. He led the Flyers in ice time for defensemen, but was 5th on the team in PK time.

Kid can't play defense and isn't as good offensively as Boyle or Burns. He could be 3rd pairing and 2nd PP here and not play any PK.
