Shamelessly copy-pasted it from capgeek. Base salary of $925,000 and $2,850,000 worth performance bonuses.

That's to say, a Schultz $3.775MM contract would only count as $925k against our cap this year if we needed it to.
so what im understanding is if we offered schultz a max contract, it would only be $925K against our cap for 2 years? we would just be paying him the bonus's without having it count against our cap? sorry if im repeating or whats already been said, i just have very little knowledge of this particular part of hockey.

I think we've all made that mistake before.

This isn't quite correct. As I alluded to in my other post, RNH's cap hit is $3.775MM for calculating the floor, but only $925k for calculating the cap (assuming Edmonton does not use their entire bonus cushion). I believe the cushion may not have been in effect last season though. A more relevant example is Brayden Schenn's cap hit. Philly started him in the AHL last year because one of his bonuses was for playing x number of NHL game, by having him miss a handful of games, that bonus became impossible to attain and therefore they could fit under the cap with his bonuses.

It would be the 3.1M I believe. Thats the max that he can get with performance bonuses. No rookie has ever reached all of them. So at worst, we'd pay him less than his cap.

It counts against the cap. If you have cap space it counts that year, if you do not have the cap space it goes into the bonus cushion and is reduced from your next season's cap total. An example would be Jonathan Toews' Conn Smythe trophy helping to dismantle the Blackhawks. The bonus payout for that and his other earned bonuses went into the bonus cushion, and counted against the team's cap the following season.

oh ok that makes it all preety clear then, if we have the money it counts, but if we don't the cushion comes into affect. so lets say we have to use the cushion, no matter what the 2nd year of his deal we would have to make room for his full all maxed bonus contract correct? the 3+mill that squidz stated.

It is $3.725MM (I noticed a slight error in my previous calculation).

He can earn $875k in salary (he's a 2008 draft pick, I believe that draft year still counts for salary calculation purposes, but could be mistaken. If so, 2012 draftees can earn $925k) plus $2.85MM in bonuses.

Well, that Toronto fan was nice by saying he'd like to see Schultz sign in Minnesota if Toronto couldn't sign him.

There is a part of me that wonders if he's so cocky that he actually made that decision because he's gonna try and sign all 3, and thinks that's somehow a feasible enough scenario to be worth planning around.

imo the only logical reason to me, for him to sign in van it would have to be because he wants to play at home. Van's top 4 is set with Hamhuis, Bieska, edler, and ballard. i guess he could take someones spot, but those 4 get paid preety well to be playing bottom pairing minutes.
