I would love the Flyers to make a pitch at Ray Whitney is he gets to free agency. I wanted him badly the last time he hit the market.

We just need to have a little patience and wait and see what Homer does. We haven't even made it to free agency yet. This offseason is far from over. As far as what we will give up of we make a trade, just look at the JVR-Schenn trade. Many of us only a few months ago or even a few days ago, would have thought for sure that Toronto would have had to add to that deal. Who knows what is going on behind the scene in Anaheim or even Columbus. Maybe there is some kind of problem between Ryan and the Anaheim brass, and the just decide to get as much as they can for him, even if it isn't that #2 center they are looking for.

I would love Ray Whitney too. Used to love watching this guy when he played down here in Florida. I just don't know if that is the direction Homer wants to go. In the last year most of the moves have brought in big physical players, i.e. Voracek, Simmonds, Jagr, Couturier, Brayden Schenn, and Luke Schenn. I just think that he is going to try to continue that trend. But in the end he shouldn't pass up a player that can help his team just because he is not physical.

So the Avs didn't qualify Mueller, any interest there?

The Avs will probably sign him to less than what his qualifying offer was but if he makes it to July 1st, I'd be absolutely interested. He'll only be 24 so there is still room for improvement. I'd take him.

do not want Ray Whitney. We don't need anymore undersized forwards. I'd rather go big on the wing, especially if we're trying to get a winger for G.

Max Pacioretty
Adds good size and has grit to his game. To score 65 points with a hopeless team like the Habs? he would definitely do better in a Flyers jersey.

Wideman signing just made Carle cost more if the flyers are trying to resign him.

It would certainly cost Couturier +. If you're willing to give up Sean, then I think you go after Ryan instead, a more proven commodity.

In another forum, someone was saying we should blow up the team and keep only Couturier. So, for fun, I wanted to see just what you could build via trade and free agency using the pieces we have. Again, not saying this is going to happen, just for funsies.

Trades below assume picks and prospects on either side to make it happen:
Flyers trade The schenns + Bourdon for Shea Weber, sign for 10 years 75 million
Flyers sign Ryan Suter to put the pair back together
Flyers trade Voracek, Andrej Meszaros for Bobby Ryan
Flyers sign Shane Doan for 4 years

I'd be cool going into the season without making a Parise-Weber-Suter type splash. Just sign a couple key guys and re-sign Voracek and Carle. No crazy long term deals. Just three years (maybe more for Voracek if he wants it). New guys in bold.

That's a pretty solid lineup if you ask me. Maybe swap Langenbrunner for Gaustad and shuffle around the lines a little (I don't know if Schenn or Briere will move to wing, but I think it seems logical that one would).

I don't see Gaustad playing 4th line minutes or the Flyers sinking that much money into the 4th center.

You guys really confuse me. You dont want to sign jagr for 3 mil when he was our 3d leading scorer despite missing quite a few games but youd be willing to spend 3 mil on freaking paul gaustad and even more on jiri hudler?

I would. Jagr is great, don't get me wrong, but he slowed up a lot toward the end of the season. Gaustad brings something different to the table than Jagr, the two really aren't comparable. Jagr is a far superior offensive threat than Gaustad, for sure. But that isn't what the team needs right now. Their defense was atrocious last season. I liked Jagr a lot, but he wasn't doing this team any good on defense. Getting a guy like Gaustad would help out a ton on defense and faceoffs. Also, I am a big Jiri Hudler fan. It appears that I am in the minority on that so take that FWIW. When it comes to Jagr, I think a lot of people are concerned with his age and durability. He still has the skill, I don't think anyone is going to argue that, but he's slowing down. Me, personally, it makes me weary.

I won't be mad if they bring him back, it's just not what I would do if I were GM. I'll be happy as a clam if he signs here and wouldn't call it a bad signing ever. I just think if they could get Gaustad and Hudler they'd be better off.

Yeah, you're right. We need as much scoring and as little defense as possible. Recipe for success!

That team would be awesome bar maybe the 4th line... We can dream eh? Just think when Kimmo and then Danny come off the books you free up plenty of cap for resignings too
