we're still met with fond pity in some circles.

but like that one guy in the Schultz thread said: at this point I no longer care if he turns out good or not--i just want to win!

Actually, it makes a tiny amount of sense. Schultz seems to be a 12PM July 1 signing (legally for once since teams are free to speak with him), while Suter and Parise are expected to take a few days. The guys who strike out on Suter aren't going to have much left over for options by the time he makes a decision. I haven't run the numbers, but maybe Lats would have made signing Schultz (or any other UFA d-man) put us out of cap room for both Parise and Suter.

You don't have to think you would be successful in signing both in order for it to be wise to have the option.

If they were to somehow get Schultz after all the drama surrounding the more bandied about teams it would be awesome and hilarious.

Also, he'd likely be the best defenseman on the team the day he'd sign.

It sure would be awesome. Thanks for trolling Canada. But Minnesota got the big catch.

It's wise to have the option, but at the same time he did have to give something quite valuable up for the tiniest sliver of a chance.

Who's to say he still can't re-sign Lats?

I don't think any of us know what would happen, except that there would almost certainly be a lockout if things actually started going right for us all of a sudden.

Lats, for starters. Did you not see the utter meltdown in the Latendresse thread?

Absolutely. However, if it's a situation where Fletcher's on the edge deciding between two things, it could be the tie-breaker.

But why would Schultz want to sign here with such a poorly run team?

canucks fans seem a little more on edge too. Really wish someone hadn't said the "r" word in conjunction with Edmonton. Now we have to sit through another year of them talking about how we all think we're rival when they think we're completely irrelevant. etc etc on and on. Don't ever say "rival". Winnipeg actually wants one to start up with us so with them it's okay, but just don't even think it in the direction of edmonton or Vancouver fans.

Prosser on another team sounds better than in Houston.

Meh... we'll see what happens in a few days. Prosser would be an adequate bottom pairing guy, but if we lost him as a result of signing Schultz and/or Suter, who gives a rip if we lose him? For him as a person... he's guaranteed his money. He'd be claimed if he was put on waivers.

I assume the one you were looking for would have come from me or TaLoN? Or am I giving you too much credit here?
