All this means is you never watched him play

Would people ****?

Carle is good.

Wideman is terrible.

Totally different.

Yeah after reading some more points, I'd probably live with 5.5 million a year for Carle in Denver. Avs desperately need another top 4 defensemen so EJ isn't stuck with Wilson or Hunwick for another season. He's a left handed shot and him and EJ seem like they'd play complimenting styles.

I don't see Colorado getting Suter and Garrison will most likely sign with the Canucks so the Avs will be desperate for Carle (he also played at Denver University lol)

Your being nothing but ignorant if you believe that was not going to be the case on July 1st no matter what.

What? Garrison doesn't run around.

No, I meant five or six d-men(the amount).

Pretty much a mirror image of the Leino situation last year for Philadelphia. Good team guy that they wanted to keep, but the market went crazy, so they walked away.

If it plays out like that... best of luck to Matt and the team that pays him the 5.5.

They both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Carle is a stronger skater and better positionally.
Wideman is the better offensive player, and is far more physical.

They both struggle with untimely turnover's aswell.
Both of these guy's in today's market were going to get 5M+ on the open market in my opinion.

People need to stop blaming Feaster lol. It's July 1st...everyone ends up overpaying, especially when the market is as limited as it is this year. I'm willing to guarantee another team would have given Wideman at least 5 million, especially now that the cap is set at 70 mill.

Exactly.

That's like saying the David Jones contract set the market for every sub 40 point player available.

As much as I'd like to see Carle here in Denver, really regardless of the price because a) the market has been driven up, 5m is no longer an overpayment for a Carle in this market/cap structure, and b) Colorado has tons of cap room and unless its like more than 3 years, it won't ever be an issue for us.

That said, I haven't seen jack squat to assume he wants to come back to Colorado. Until I see otherwise, I'm putting our chances to sign him at around the same as our chances to sign Parise/Suter: about 3-5%.

Sums up my sentiments.

I'd like to see him back, but not for the price he's going to get.

I don't think Jones' contract was based on his points. He's just a pure goal scorer. He's basically a guarantee for 20 goals per season.

That's what I mean.

Each team has it's own set of needs and weaknesses, and they pay for them accordingly.

Say Colorado has Carle as their #1 target, they are not going to go spend 5.5M+ on him longterm strictly because Calgary made a similar commitment to a player who plays absolutely nothing like him.

And there you have it. I think it's a matter of days before Carle is an Avalanche. It just makes sense for both him and the team. He might even take less to go there, you never know.

If we can get Matt for around 4.5 million I'd be ok with it.

I think he'd fit in nicely next to EJ and can be a minute muncher.

That's just speculation. I'll believe it when I see it.
