Carey Price close to sign long term with the Habs.

On raconte que le portier montréalais s'entendrait bientôt sur les termes d'un contrat à long terme d'une durée de six à sept saisons. Le contrat serait d'une valeur annuelle d'environ 6,5 millions.
6 or 7 years at 6,5 per.

Ideally I'd like between 5-6 for Price but with the cap at 70,2 millions, I guess 6,5 is the new 5,5.

Good for Price. Top 10 goalie in the league for sure.

I think around $5-$6M per is a fair price...for Price.

A bit of a steep price for Price!

But still, the Habs cannot afford to lose him and he's part of the elite in this league, so in the end, with a cap of 70M, 6m/year isn't all that bad.

Dennis Wideman makes 5,25M after all...

6-7 years at $6.5 mil per year is OK for Price. Not great, but fine.

Thats HF mentality right here, where 200,000 makes all the difference in the world on a 70 millions cap hit.

Carey Price would get at least 7 million on the open market. If the Habs get him signed long term under 7 million a year it's a good deal.

6 year 36M would be fair.

MTL isn't into those long term teams, ex Quick, and Price is very young, so with that signed, he would be up for another big contract when he will only be around 30 years old.

I guess they will add 1M/year just for the fact that he have the most difficult job in all the NHL. Being the Starting goalie for the Montreal Canadiens

Whatever Price signs for is fair compensation as far as I'm concerned.

In July 2008 Miller signed a 5 year deal paying him 6.25 per season. He'd had a long playoff run but Buffalo was a very good team.

That was 6.25, when the cap was 56.7.

Now if Price signs for 6.75 while the cap is at 70.2 I don't understand on any level how it'd a bad deal at all.

Great players get paid lots of money. If Price was hitting UFA I don't think it's unreasonable to think he would hit 8 million.

This locks him up long term at a fixed rate while the cap is likely to increase as well.

Looking forward to knowing Price is going to be a hab for a very long time.

If it's 6.5-7 It's not good.

But 6 would be, right?

7 would be good, 6.5 or so will be even better.

Pray tell, if 6.5-7 isn't good what would be good in your eyes?

Yup, hopefully Subban signs in a couple of weeks and then Pacioretty signs long term for Neal-ish money in January as well.

Good 3 guys to build around...if only the Habs had a young center with top line potential and size

5.5-6.

Though, the way the cap keeps going up 8 in 3 years will look great.

The hardest job in the NHL is fluffer in the Kings locker room.

And he doesn't even get a ring.

Easily a top-5 goalie in the league for most people. I'd probably put him top-3 or at least heavily debate it, especially if Thomas never plays again. With how much the cap has gone up I don't think Lundqvist's cap hit is unreasonable for Price and even those who think Price is nothing more than 5th best in the league must see how age and his importance on an otherwise bad team would make that pretty reasonable. He's one of a few franchise goalies in the league and they should do whatever they can to keep him longterm.

The only way a Habs fan could hate Price getting a big pay day is if they resent him for the fact the Habs didn't get Yakupov

Habs fans are delusional after one bad season and simply insist on seeing the "negative" side of everything that happens.

As a habs fan myself it's both amusing and perplexing at the same time.

Price you pay for a goalie of his caliber.

Great signing for the Habs.
