Actually this makes even more sense. Odd that it's a one way deal but whatever works.

I hate to break the news , but ENGQVIST going back overseas was out a LONG TIME AGO ....Months ago .

If fans knew it ....don't give me the line about emergency Noky signing a few day until UFA ..

BAD BAD BAD signing BAD BAD BAD.

6 000 players are available in 2 days, why Nokelainen? Beurk
Who else is available? People act like the UFA market is plentiful. Guys like Jason Garrison will command $5M+. You're seeing a lot more teams re-signing their guys cuz they don't want to have to deal with the inflated prices of UFAs.

Are we seriously crying over a 13th forward? Good grief, Habs fans..c'mon.

His qualifying offer, if I`m not mistaken, would have been $605 000.

By not qualifying him they did save a bit of money. 575 is the league min this year, I believe.

550,000 * 110% = 605,000
That's right. My brother just confirmed me this

That's the best thought out, most insightful post I've seen in this thread.

Congratualtions. I approve of your participation.

I tell ya Gauthier is still here in a closet somewhere.
To qualify him that had to offer him a 10% raise minimum, but don't let facts stand in the way of rippin' this management a new A-hole!!!

Nothing guarantees Leblanc will be there. He is on a 2 way and still has things to learn. He could be in Hamilton at the very least to start. Geoffrion isn't so hot. He needs to earn his spot in camp. He's the kind of guy wo may play his way to the AHL or waivers.

gREAT,

They should have waited and tried to fill his big shoes at July 1 ....If there was no better then sign Noky.

Noky been on 5 or 6 teams in NHL ...his carpet is getting short.

We can still sign an actual great awesome 4th line center. If we are unable to (probably because 15 teams are going to call Gaustad and he'll be gone for something ridiculous like 3m$) then we won't have to spend draft picks or rush a prospect to have a 4th line center that can take faceoffs.

He signed 1 year at league minimum salary, there is no risk whatsoever.
This. You can always waive him when a 4th line C on a team gets hurt and they need an NHLer fast. No risk.

If you think people are overreacting here wait for the rds.ca talkbacks. "J'aime ben mieux Mathieu Darche blablabla".

You are right that Geoffrion and Leblanc might be start the season with Hamilton.

That leaves a few spots open.

What if we can't find a better player than Nokelainen? Who centers the 4th line then? White, who is better as a winger? Dumont, who isn't ready yet? Leblanc, who would be better of being the Bulldogs' star player? Or perhaps we sign someone roughly equivalent or worse than Nokelainen for twice the salary..

Come on Habaneros, just like Darche or Engqvist these are complimentary players, they don't change anything about the team's competitiveness. If Habs are well positionned to challenge for the playoffs come trade deadline AND Nokelainen fails to be effective then we are going to acquire someone by trade. Easy as pie, no risk whatsoever.

Odd, didn't expect this.. but I am fine with it. Cheap one year deal, insurance player if they need him they won't have to scramble to find someone else via trade. If they do land an ideal UFA to play the 4th line they can just put Noke on waivers and its not a big deal at all at that price.

Couple things. 1) Engqvist was only CONFIRMED going to the KHL a few days ago, maybe RUMOURS came out months ago. if you like RUMOUIRS, I hear there's a guy named Eklund that's pretty entertaining, so like it our not, my reasoning has weight.

2) Just because he's on a one-way contract does not mean he's got a guaranteed spot on this team. He's got to earn it, just like everyone else. All that means is that if he gets sent to Hamilton, he'll still be making that 575 down there, assuming he clears waivers.

3) This is gonna be a LONG summer if you continue to overreact over every move, big or small.

Yeah, not a guy I'm looking forward to watching again. On the plus side, he doesn't have to show much to exceed my expectations. And he's as cheap as it is possible to be. YAY! He's Cheap!
