This is the first time we've signed Nokelainen (traded for Trotter) so it is impossible that you saw this same thread last year.

2) Just because he's on a one-way contract does not mean he's got a guaranteed spot on this team. He's got to earn it, just like everyone else. All that means is that if he gets sent to Hamilton, he'll still be making that 575 down there, assuming he clears waivers.

3) This is gonna be a LONG summer if you continue to overreact over every move, big or small.
yes the number 52......the number 47....and Picard.I'm not that dumb.

At that price, it doesn't seem like they expect him to be playing very much. Pressbox filler.

Ok, the Engqvist theory makes sense. Nokelainen isn't that much older than Engqvist after all: Dec 23 1987 vs. Jan 16 1986

Absolutely not. Go, look at the UFA list and find a guy who would accept to play on the Habs fourth line. This means he'll get minimal ice time and can't get a salary over 1.5m. It'll be good if you find five, that means there is an off chance there might be one of them we could sign.

Not even 600k... Thats less than 1% of the cap. We could afford 121 Petteri Nokelainens!

So he's #13? You surely hope so 'cause if not, that's a stupid signing. Is Nokelainen amongst the first priorities in July 1st? You would have find better players to play that position and even if you wouldn't...you would have found Nokelainen available around the end of the month. Bergevin's way of saluting the past administration when Gainey signed Downey and Murray in the same fashion....Don't see the point...Hey Darche was good riddance, but now people will find Nokelainen a good signing? After not caring that he wasn't qualified? Come on people...

Strange signals that are send now. So while most people started to agree that Darche was not needed anymore and that a 2-way was probably normal....they go on and signed Nokelainen on a 1-way.

Does it come down to that now?

Like Montreal could spend 750,000 on a better player , they need to signed a guy at 575,000 ?

Noky gets you 9 pts for 575.000

the 750,000 k player gets you 18-20....Who is the better deal?

Signing him right before JULY1,and to a oneway at that??? is DUMB
There is no rush for Noky...sorry...

All filled a hole on the roster. MAB PP specialist, Darche, 4th line PK locker room leader (and don't bring up the "How the Coach played him" debate again, I could care less) and Picard, Injury replacement.

Who is that guy that scores 18-20pts playing 5 minutes a game on montreal's fourth line for a mere 750k? Travis Moen got signed to 1.5m 3 years ago, do you really expect we can get a UFA fourth line center that can play hockey for 750k? Sure Nokelainen isn't a big name but he's not a liability and he can win faceoffs.

No man, the same thing was said, just because Darche Picard and MAB all signed one way deals, doesn't mean there be here all season!

That turned was wrong .

Now you say , just because Noky signed a one way deal, doesn't mean he'll be here all season.....NEXT

Ahhh right.

And who is that better player?

And how much does he cost?

And what is plan B if that player isn't available?

If they get a better player through UFA, Noke gets waived. That simple. Insurance incase those better players decide to sign elsewhere for more $ or better term.

I'd rather bring a guy up from Hamilton to play on the 4th line instead of Nokeleinen. I guess we can't complain about the money like you said.

EITHER Carey Price and Subban contract is really effecting Habs this year, or your watching the AHL.
Your asking who is better than Nokelainen in NHL ? for real?He has been cut lose by 5 teams at 25 years old , your asking that freaking question??????

AHL IS IN HAMILTON .

I see you missed all of last season. Lucky you. Hopefully the Habs win 82 games + 16 so we won't have to read him.

Engqvist just signed with the KHL. Dumont isn't ready. It would be terrible for Leblanc's development to play 5 minutes a game in the NHL instead of 20 on Hamilton's top line. Nattinen isn't ready. Bournival hasn't played a pro game yet...

Hamilton is already very short on centers.

Seeing the reaction in this thread you'd think we picked 3rd overall because of him. People should love him!?

I think everyone expects all player we sign from now on to be 6 foot 4 dudes from western canada called ''Bryan T. McGritt'' and ''Sam Punchiston''.
