Uuuuughhhh

Hunwick was never sent down. He was a healthy scratch a good portion of the season.

But never the AHL.

Do you people just make this stuff up and hope it's correct?

If Suter bolts, I expect us to take a flyer on Carle.

If all it takes is 4.5 per, I expect the Flyers to sign him right away on July 1st. He's going to command more then that.

I thought it was a given the Flyers couldn't sign Carle until 7/1 because of tagging space. I think he'll sign in Philly for under $5M. Met him a few times casually and he seems to have like playing on a team where he isn't being looked at to carry a d. In Phila he has Kimo as the #1 and Mez, Coburn, Grossman, and now Schenn that will all kind of just blend together. If he goes to COL or any team that pays him more then $5M he will have a lot more epected of him.

Plus, his girlfriend/wife (?) and Carle have gotten involved with several charities in the Phila area.

If he is looking for $5M or more the Flyers will not resing him not necessarily because he doesn't deserve it but because they can only spend so much on the their D.

The Flyers would simply re-sign him for that much. If Matt Carle is leaving Philadelphia as a UFA, I would be absolutely stunned if it were for less the 5M a year.... I'd be surprised id it were even less than Wideman took.

Why would he have high expectations in Colorado? I bet most people here wouldn't even know he played at Denver University.

With a contract in excess of 5M+, you better believe he will have a large amount of expectations no matter his location.

I'm fine with us letting him walk, he's really not that good regardless of what DGS will tell you.

Hunwick was never sent down to the AHL by the Avs this previous season. He was a healthy scratch for the majority of the season. EDIT: just saw a few others address this. Sorry for bringing this up again.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if the Avs pursued Carle as soon as they know they are out of the Suter sweepstakes (which they are in my opinion). He would "work" for the time being next to EJ and then once the Avs are able to obtain a bona fide top pairing guy to play with Johnson, Carle could be moved down to the third spot. Avs could trade one of their numerous 4-6 D men (O'Byrne/Hejda/O'Brien) to make room for Carle.

I am not saying that Carle to Colorado is likely, just saying that pursuing him from an Avs' perspective could "make sense".

Carle will easily go for 5+. Wouldn't be shocked to see him get close to 5.75 mil, possibly 6. UFAs are going to be getting paid this summer.

He definitely would have high expectations in Colorado. Not only from management, but fans (obviously). Avs need work on D and hypothetically if Carle is the one addition to the blueline in Colorado, he will be expected to make a difference. And...

Because of what he will be demanding on the market or...? If it is his market asking price, just look at what other UFAs went for already. Supply is short, demand is high.

I would like him on the Flames but I don't think we are looking for another top 4 defenseman.

Pierre McGuire said today that he's heard that the expectation is that Carle is going to get 5.5 or even 6 for 6 years, and there are enough teams interested that it will happen.

Wideman was a typical UFA defenseman overpayment of 7-7.5% of the cap stop overreacting.

I don't see Suter signing for less than 8 million, honestly. Some of the "6.5" numbers I see people speculating are lunacy.

Well yeah.

I was mostly just curious if the original poster meant something about expectations in Colorado in particular, different to the norm. Obviously anyone signing a $6m contract is going to be looked at to play well.

If that is possible then the flyers would probably be the ones giving it to him.

No worries, I have just been skimming this thread do I could have missed what you were alluding to. Pressure in Colorado would be relatively high from the die hards, but otherwise is very low at the moment in the Denver market (media and casual fans) on the Avs. Not sure if that answered anything for you.
