Charlie is more NHL ready TODAY, benefitted from the US college season, lots of gym time...Phillips, IMO needs a year in the AHL, as the Sea dogs went 3 straight years long into the playoffs and he played about 300 games of hockey over that time.

I LOVE Phillips upside, he played tremendously in games that mattered and the better the competition the better he played, he was the SEA DOGS Best player in the Memorial Cup, imo.....and to be selected the team Most Valuable Player, on a team with Galiev, Jurco, Beaulieau, Coyle, Huberdeau and Gauthier speaks to his ability. Certainly under the radar on these boards but not in Saint John or Canada.
I still think they both would benefit greatly from a year in the AHL, but I guesss thats what camp is for--the free agent period and the results of that will greatly effect the make up of the team this year--thats pretty profund, ha ha.............best to you guys in Minny
Thanks for the insight on Philips.

Love this guy. That's exactly what I saw during the Memorial Cup.

Would love to be able interview some prospects (or ones not named Erik Haula) to add to the discussion but we're just some small rinky-dink blog.

Psh, they don't know that. All you need is a notepad, a polo, and a false air of bravado.

Laminated badge that says "Press," and a clip-board. They'll get unlimited access!

Wouldn't Phillips have to be converted to wing in order for him to play on the big club in a couple years? Or would it be more likely that we just play Granlund on the wing? Then again, Granlund might play on Koivu's wing so I guess there's no guarantee they'll even be on the same line.

Due to his footspeed, Phillips likely projects as a wing at the NHL level.

Sounds good to me. Honestly, I never got the hype about the guy. Never did anything too special. I hope he throws it in my face and shows me otherwise.

Yeah I'm disappointed and a lot of others are disappointed we lost Lats. A couple people seem to be really, really pessimistic, and lots of people just don't care.

We won't know for a week if the team will add any NHL talent or if they will get better. Right now they are worse. They may be better in a week. They may have to wait until late summer to make a trade and get better. Maybe they just bring in a few rookies and wait for October.
Because we lost a guy that missed half the season and hasn't scored consistantly for us since before he got a nice 2.5M contract from us to do nothing?

Yeah we're definitely worse... I'm excited to see how the rookie camp goes, lots of big names and i'm really excited to see the future of this team.

From watching a few games of the Memorial Cup, he just thinks the game at a higher level than most other players. Makes great decisions with and without the puck; creates plays single-handedly; makes his teammates better.

Coyle has the size, but Phillips plays a more complete game.

I'll have to catch a few games this season. Haven't gone to one since my Freshman year.

Just looked at some stats... Jensen tore it up last season. I played some pick up hockey with him, and he can absolutely fly. One of the highlights of my "less than storied" hockey career is that he found me backdoor with a pass that I put home. Great kid.

St. Cloud deserves a solid season. Jonny Brodzinski is another kid I used to skate with. He's got dangles for days. If he can keep his fitness level up, he'll be a great addition for you guys.

Sudden realization. It's going to be a sweeeet developmen camp. Dumba, Brodin, Larsson, Coyle, Phillips, Granlund... Everyone has improved their game. Getting excited!

he was bigger than everyone last year and didn't really dominate like he did in the Q. What is he up to, now? Bulmer put on over 20 lbs since last year so i'd imagine Coyle might find that a challenge in battling.

Not related to the development camp, but I hate his 2nd line on his depth chart.

Absolutely. I think it's basically a guarantee that Seto is on the third line. If Granlund or Parise isn't on the wing with Koivu and Heatley, it'll be Butch.

Cody Corbett was highly ranked wasn't he? Supposedly a pretty solid D man with some potential to bring some offense.
