Martin Brodeur very likely to test free agent market

That he's even considering it is mind-blowing. Chicago fans must be positively giddy at the possibility.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
If Brodeur were just going to stay in New Jersey, he would not have hired an agent, something he hasn't used for a long time.

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun
As per @DarrenDreger, Brodeur has hired Brisson. ``He will be testing free agency if a deal is not in place by Sunday,'' Brisson via email

You gave your sweat and blood for that team for so many years.

Bourque is greedy.

That's why I respect Yzerman, Sakic and Modano (whom they didn't want to resign)
What about Mondano's stint in Detroit? How do you know what the situation in Jersey is? Maybe they don't want to resign him either.

I want him on the Oilers!

He can end the twilight of his career like Oates did, and look where that got him!

He will stay in nj. He probably just wants to make sure he gets a fair deal. He had no agent so now he does... Smart

Burkie needs to come out gunz blazing..

Although Brodeur probably wants a shot at the cup in these last seasons.

It's real. Lebrun confirms it.

As a Devils fan I am stunned that this preliminary step was taken by Brodeur. He has NEVER hired an agent before.

Tells me both Brodeur and Parise will at last test UFA. Concerns me that there are indeed legitimate money problems.

Also concerned with Brisson as his agent of all people.

Imo it's either:
-Ownership.
-NJ looking for new direction in goal sooner rather than later.
-Brodeur thinks he's worth more money than NJ thinks he is, probably last payday.

Absolutely. Sign him for one year. Opportunities to get a legendary goaltender (even if he isn't still legendary) without giving up assets for someone who likely wants a 1-2 year deal is perfect.

What players does Brisson connect to?

He's never had an agent. He and Lou have always negotiated directly.

One of the most ridiculous phrases ever written. Just because he wants to give it a shot somewhere else it ruins his legacy?

This I agree with. This context makes the statement above even more unreasonable.

EDIT: CHI and TOR make the most sense here. Maybe with the ownership mess, Lou is leaving too?

He can probably get a 2-year deal at 5 million a season.

Brodeur should be a Devil for life. Don't pull a Modano in Detroit for a year, Marty...

Him and Luongo are going to Toronto. Luongo will play the regular season, Brodeur will play in the playoffs.

Best news as a Devils fan I've heard in weeks. I love Marty but enough is enough and it's time for a change.
