Lets start this thread off right.

Suter for 6 mil and 11 years ? Should be possible

A little roster I threw together, Unlikely? Yea because we all know how BM operates on July 1st. I signed Doan, Suter, and Arnott.

FORWARDS
Shane Doan ($5.000m) / Ryan Getzlaf ($5.325m) / Corey Perry ($5.325m)
Bobby Ryan ($5.100m) / Nick Bonino ($0.728m) / Kyle Palmieri ($1.025m)
Andrew Cogliano ($2.390m) / Saku Koivu ($3.800m) / Teemu Selanne ($4.000m)
Matt Beleskey ($0.738m) / Jason Arnott ($1.500m) / Devante S.-Pelly ($0.870m)
Dan Sexton ($0.550m) /

DEFENSEMEN
Luca Sbisa ($2.175m) / Ryan Suter ($7.000m)
Francois Beauchemin ($3.500m) / Cam Fowler ($1.400m)
Toni Lydman ($3.000m) / Sami Vatanen ($1.325m)
Nate Guenin ($0.525m) /

GOALTENDERS
Jonas Hiller ($4.500m)
Viktor Fasth ($1.000m)

It gives us a strong roster going forward, one that WILL make the playoffs and I believe makes us cup contenders. It would be a beyond successful offseason if we were able to sign Suter and Doan. This gives us 9 million and change in cap room.

Next year Koivu, Selanne, Lydman, and Arnott come off the books and there will be more than enough to re-sign Getz, Perry, Fowler, and Palmieri.

I keep thinking nothing will happen like always, but then I realise how much they need to spend to get to the floor.

Also, isn't Teemu supposed to make his decision on Sunday?

Supposedly but I always take that with a grain of salt.

Here is a question. What about Carle? He is going to test FA and the expectations is that he will be around a 5mil hit

Carle won't be worth the price he gets and he doesn't really fit a need. He's a soft PMD that doesn't have much of a shot from the point so he won't be any use QBing our PP and he isn't great in his own end. Think Ryan Whitney without the size and with a worse shot.

Well that's not very fair. I mean he is good at some things, you just described an AHLer.

I'd love to listen in on their meetings right now. I sure hope they've got a plan of action.

I didn't describe an AHLer, I described a number 4 defenseman which is what Carle is. He's good at moving the puck and is a reasonable option on a PP so long as he doesn't have to QB it. And he can log a lot of minutes.

Our needs on defense (aside from the pressing need of not having a true no1 defenseman which I doubt we will be able to address) are a guy to replace Visnovsky's role as the shooting option on the PP (which will likely be Vatanen) and a good defensive defenseman to play in our top 4. Matt Carle doesn't fit either of those needs.

Do you thin we should go for Jokinen?

Look like he is looking for big payday, I guess around 5 mln/per year, but we can use him with Bobby...

Ryan - Jokinen - Palmieri

Murray said we should play with four lines while still being more physical than the former years. Instead of targeting the typical top6-players we could diversify the lineup a bit through all four lines, and end up with something like this?

FORWARDS
Devante S.-Pelly ($0.870m) / Ryan Getzlaf ($5.325m) / Corey Perry ($5.325m)
Bobby Ryan ($5.100m) / Nick Bonino ($0.728m) / Kyle Palmieri ($1.025m)
Andrew Cogliano ($2.390m) / Saku Koivu ($3.800m) / Teemu Selanne ($4.000m)
Matt Beleskey ($0.738m) / Paul Gaustad ($2.500m) / Mikael Samuelsson ($2.500m)
Brandon McMillan ($0.875m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Francois Beauchemin ($3.500m) / Cam Fowler ($1.400m)
Luca Sbisa ($2.175m) / Ryan Suter ($7.500m)
Toni Lydman ($3.000m) / Sami Vatanen ($1.325m)
Nate Guenin ($0.525m) /
GOALTENDERS
Jonas Hiller ($4.500m)
Viktor Fasth ($1.000m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $70,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $60,100,150; BONUSES: $2,517,500
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $10,099,850

Just a suggestion of another way to target our problems. Suter is just a (unrealistic) temporary suggestion and he could be switched with any other defenseman who would lower our salary total with a few millions.

I'd like Jokinen but I'm almost certain we will see McClement here next season as another 3rd/4th center. I personally hate the idea, but it's what I'm expecting.

^likely forward lineup IMO. I do think Saku is the default 2C though.

Gaustad is getting ready to sign with Nashville and i wouldn't call the chances of Suter being on our blueline "likely". Although I do hope so. I'm expecting some borderline 3rd line center who is a 4th line center on a contender. Someone like McClement. I don't hate the idea of him being on the 4th line, but I hate the idea of it being Koivu and Bonino on 2nd and 3rd lines.

Likely forward lineup. It doesn't have to be Gaustad, but I expect somebody similar to be brought in.

I'm almost certain Murray will have to bring someone "expensive" in, be it on defense or offense, no ways about it since Ducks will remain below cap floor otherwise.

If it's as the 4th line center, what's to hate about that idea? McClement can be a damn good 4th line center, and we have no guy that fits that spot.

Nothing new on Bobby Ryan saga. Ducks GM Bob Murray would not comment. Know that he has yet to meet w/him. Been told no trade demand.

RFAs? He did address it a few days ago. I don't know if Ryan is even back from Idaho, yet.
