if anything, its going to be the people that he has met over the past 2 days that will help him decide where he wants to play, not phone calls from old star players that are repping a franchise. Gardiner flew in specifically today from Minnesota and he is already on his way back just to see his friend, and probably help the negotiations. That means much more than a phone call.

It's all a great game and no one knows what is going to push Schult's buttons. Logic says he'd have signed in Anaheim, but, he didn't. If we aren't acting based on logic, we are acting based on emotion, and no one really knows what emotion will spark Justin.

There is nothing wrong, or dumb or anything about the Oilers trying to inspire the guy.

I don't understand this argument though. We don't know why he doesn't want to play for the Ducks. On paper they have almost everything going for them. So whatever the reason is, it's a pretty big one. Just because Scott Niedermayer couldn't convince him to stay that doesn't mean he didn't value his opinion or doesn't value the opinion of any hockey legend. You're kidding yourself if you think he's rolling his eyes when he's on the phone with Gretzky like he isn't going to consider everything he's saying. It's Wayne Gretzky. Lets not down play that just to make a point. He could call a Canadian 6 year old and the kid would be doing back flips. Gretzky is a big deal.

I'm not saying Gretzky convinced him to sign with the Oilers...but there is no way it hurt their chances like some are trying to suggest. It wasn't a pointless phone call.

Plus, if Niedermayer did call him. He was probably trying to sell the Ducks. Gretzky was probably trying to sell the idea of growing up with the same group of talented young players and left selling the Oilers to management.

I wouldn't be that shocked with any decision, but I'm thinking it goes:

VAN
EDM
TOR/MIN

so I'm guessing he's talked to all the teams he wants to right now and is "sleeping on it". right? or is there someone on his list who hasn't made a personal pitch yet?

He should just sign with Toronto for the good of the hfboards. Much less fighting between teams over who's city is better or who has had more success over the last 20 years because everyone will simply suddenly agree he was a overhyped, egotistical, undeserving punk kid who screwed over Anaheim and was part of this master plan with Toronto all along.

Someone needs to explain this to him, he'll bring peace to HF again!

It's strange how he saw Vancouver the night before he saw anyone else.

i think people would be stunned speechless if he signed with Minnesota, so maybe calmer here in that respect. They'd all respond with derision for Toronto but wouldn't know what to say if he ended up with Minny.

So Wednesday night? Maybe that's why he cancelled on Hall. They were supposed to go out for beers.

Here's a thought:
-Gardiner helped convince Justin Schultz to play one more year in college because it was best for his development
-anyone think Gardiner won't be all "Justin, come play for the Leafs no matter what!" but rather, "Justin, do what you think is best."?

I wonder what it was like for him to meet Taylor Hall, Management probably gave him a list of things he had to say to Schultz, basically memorizing a script of what he had to say. That would just be awkward. At least Schultz was in his comfort zone when he met Gardiner today and he could act more like himself around him and they can talk 'friend things' ya know....

I would be shocked if he did not go to Vancouver. I would be shocked if he went to Edmonton. I would be delighted if he would come to New York. I can't see him choosing Toronto or Minnesota.

I really don't think anyone would hate on him if he did that.

After all, being on Minnesota is punishment enough

I just hope he doesn't sign in EDM, VAN or Ottawa. I'm fine with NY or MIN though.
